Halo Infinite is not a revolution. The game is looking to capture the spirit and look of the original with better graphical fidelity

You have never played a halo on console faster then what they showed at the show in the native format.

The stream was low quality but the 4k video looks much better and it was a demo build from January. We are almost in August

The game will not look like a next gen masterpiece but that is because MS is making the game to be the staple of Game Pass with future content for years. I can assure you that the online multiplayer in Halo will be the most played multi player next to COD for years to come.

MS could have taken the easy route and made it 30fps and a bit more linear and gave you a showcase graphical game but that would sell and then have no value to what they are trying to accomplish. People will join game pass to get into the multi player. I can assure you of that because I feel in time the multiplayer can be 120fps on xsx

I agree with your post 100%, but for Xbox fans...and I play both consoles, they have to be disappointed in the overall presentation that Microsoft put out. Halo is your best offering and it got lack luster treatment.

Forget the graphics, the 1080p stream, the gameplay demo was flat and boring. After all the outlets saying Microsoft needed to bounce back after the first event, they totally bombed. I was actually expecting more from just the Halo showing, I wouldn’t buy that game if we were in the middle of the Series X cycle based on what I saw.

I’ve played all the Halo’s, but never online. Hopefully they’ll put some effort into the single player.

Ok I'm aware of that. You just mentioned graphics.. the gameplay look dated. I've never played halo this fast before oh man if that doesnt get me excited. The world looks boring and empty.. drive here kill this.. that's neat. I guess I was hoping for more with such a big budget.

The demo build being old isnt a very good excuse when the game is only a few months away from launch and is absolutely their biggest title.. maybe ever.

            Re: Xbox Games Showcase Discussion

Personally, I am the most hyped for Xbox for the first time in about a decade when I owned an Xbox 360. Everyone here knows how critical I have been with Xbox during the Xbox One generation but this generation is done in four months and it's onto far better stuff.

Xbox Series X is going to be the best place to play multi-platform titles which for me, is 80% of my total completed games once the generation ends. I want these games to be the best they can be and console wise, that will be on Series X.

Exclusives wise, I liked what I saw from Halo Infinite. Did it blow me away? No but nothing has on either side. I know about their live service plans which is fine because that's what Microsoft wants, they want long term engagement over the long haul. They don't want you to just play their games once and be done with them. Give me awesome gameplay and combat with a good story and characters plus story expansions throughout set in that sci-fi world of Halo and im good.

Avowed showed a gameplay teaser trailer and it's Obsidian who is very good so I am very interested in it. Hellblade 2 is day one as is Fable. Not worried or concerned about either game. I don't mind live serviced games either anymore. If anything, that's actually what im starting to prefer.

As long as it's solo and single player or like The Division 2 where I can play by myself, im good. Like, you got me. LOL.

State of Decay 3 and Everwild have my interest but they're both in pre-production. I do believe that they should have held off on them both but I understand why they chose to show them. Sony has shown games that have been up to 4 years away from release and in a way, you need to know what's coming down the line.

I have a crap load of games already for next gen. Plus, they will all look amazing on my OLED so im not worried about that. At this point, I just want good to great to excellent games that are of interest to me and I will be a happy camper.

My last xbox was the 360 as well. Use to be a huge xbox fan. Only fable and halo interests me. The rest of their exclusives are whatever to me. Graphics and game pass do nothing for me if the games arent very good. Again Hopefully halo brings more to the table in August.

I like Verge's headline: XBOX GAME PASS IS MICROSOFT’S TRUE NEXT-GEN XBOX

The abilities of the ecosystem have far exceeded any game I want from any platform. In the near future I'll have access to the bulk of my library on:

                - Mobile
                - Tablet
                - PC
                - multiple generations of Xbox hardware

Gamers need to decide two things. Do they feel graphical accomplishment is getting to the point of diminishing returns or they do want these devs to push visuals above all else to sell to the masses?

Halo Infinite will look amazing when it releases but if you expect it to blow your socks out, it will not

But it will give you a 60fps experience in an open world without cutting corners like muddy puddles and low rez foliage in the distance. It will have ray tracing implemented and it will play amazing in multi player. Mark my words that when you play the game on day 1 you will remember their demo video and say damm it looks much better now. and it will be because is native on your screen and at 60fps smooth with an open world to it

And did I mention you do not have to drop 60 dollars to see if you like it. It will be on game pass day 1

That is a win for all customers IMO

you got all of that in a 7 minute controlled demo from one small area of a map?

Name me one game that is doing something we never seen before. I bet you cannot

What Last of us 2? Spiderman? God of War? What is it that those games do that is new and exciting? Games are carbon copies of each other. Most of sony first party games are driven by the same concept. Uncharted 1 through 4 did what different each time? Gave Nathan a rope? Last of us 2 gameplay improved from first but it is the same concept.

Halo 1 through 5 same thing and Gears of war 1 through 5 same thing.

If MS told the devs at 343 to push the graphical limits of their console they could have easily done a 30fps with amazing visuals that made mouths dropped at the event.

But you will play it and then after beating it or getting over the graphics you would have said, man I wish I could play this at 60fps or the world did not feel so linear.

MS said that this gen was not going to be all about graphics but performance will be huge

Sony said they are pushing graphical fidelity and 30fps is what would help them get there.

Frankly it works for both companies visions because Sony exclusives are story driven linear games for the most part with mostly empty universes with a ton of set pieces but they have great stories and visuals

MS wants to engage the 60fps crowd because that will attract customers to jump from xbox to xsx. MS has become more interested in making money from all angles. That might not appeal to many and I get that but that is their goal.

We will see how much of that goal Sony wants steak in as well.

Yes I absolutely did. The game is a couple months away and that's what they brought to the table. I'm a multiplayer guy and Sony exclusives do it differently enough to keep me engaged. Games generally bore me and this one so far looks like it will do just that.

I don't like uncharted. I'm a huge halo fan man. Didnt like 4, and 5 was the same.. so maybe its 343. I dont care about the graphics... do not care.
Maybe it's the way sony exclusives tell their stories it actually is a bit different, and maybe they are not for you, but I enjoy them.

                          Re: Xbox Games Showcase Discussion

Personally, one of the many reasons why im going with Series X as my primary gaming console is because of the bigger emphasis on performance and frame rate. Visually, I care the most about Ray Tracing, HDR and Resolution in that order. If the resolution has to be reduced to 1080P but gives me a locked 60FPS with no fluctuation, im all for it. Getting Ray Tracing and/or HDR is just icing on the cake.

Watching the Digital Foundry analysis for Halo Infinite, it was mostly due to them using Real Time Lighting which makes objects look "flat" when in shadow. Vast majority of the demo takes place in shadow so it doesn't give the game the best visual look especially when watching on a 1080P stream that's compressed.

Overall, visuals are third in terms of importance to me. Do I want games to look amazing? Absolutely but they already do outside of the rare exception here and there. Gameplay especially combat is of the most importance to me followed by performance which has to do with the gameplay. Story and characters would be second most important.

Going into next gen, I simply want games to run and perform at 60FPS (or higher) because that will in turn make the game not only play and feel better but also make the game look better overall because the image quality would be better even at a lower resolution.

It was definitely more then just being in a shadow. The character models didnt look very good. The trees all looked the same.. the world looked bland. No movement in the world trees were static. Minor things but they add up. Yes perhaps it was just this 7 minute demo.. perhaps they should have chosen a different section maybe. It's not the graphics per se it's the art design of the world and just how bland it looked.

Is there another show in August Peter420? I was under the impression there was for some reason but cant seem to find anything on it.

As far as I know, there's supposed to be a hardware based event where the Xbox Series S (or whatever they end up calling it) gets revealed along with the release date, prices and pre-order startup date. Could also have The Initiative's game be revealed as Microsoft did hold some stuff back since Sony is having an August show as well which is currently rumored to be August 6th. Don't know about the Xbox date but I would think that it would be more towards the end of the month.
