Re: PlayStation 5 ($499) and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition ($399) - Releases on Novem
I will say it again..
You are saving $100 up front but the cost of digital is way beyond physical copies in the long run.
You are going to spend way more than $100 with digital only. If you don’t like a game? Tough luck.
I wanted digital only but the more I read and the more I thought about it, $100 more, no reason to not get the disk version IMO.
Also, if sales were like PC, digital would make more sense, they’re not. Games that are $9.99 in store are still $59.99 on PSN. At $69.99, digital going to get expensive very quick.
Example: MLB The Show 20: I held off buying it on release day just kept playing 19. Today I can get it for $23.99 on sale on the PS Store , and I will. Also I've found holding off and waiting to get game on sale usually means they have already been patched a few times and are working as they should. Unlike release day when you have to deal with a series of bugs and glitches.Comment

This is not 100% accurate. If you're going to go all digital there are ways to make it pay off. I've been all digital since 2017. The PS Store has sales/deals almost weekly , and if you can hold off buying a game on release day and wait a few months you can get it for half price or less. Also there are many places online to get reviews and previews of games so there shouldn't be a problem buying a game you do not like. Also with programs like PlayStation Now and Game Pass you may not even need to buy a lot of games , just play them there and move on.
Example: MLB The Show 20: I held off buying it on release day just kept playing 19. Today I can get it for $23.99 on sale on the PS Store , and I will. 2) I never said there were no sales or hardly any sales. Digital sales and the continuation of pricing as games ages are terrible on console compared to PC. That is all I said. I used an exaggeration in the example of price difference. You a PC gamer? You understand what I mean. You’re not? I see why you’re confused. There is a big difference, I promise. Using the extreme exaggeration was my fault.
3) If you think the digital doesn’t cost more in the long run, I think you’re in denial. That’s okay too, again, just trying to help guys not feel bad about not getting the digital. Digital will always be more expensive, as I said, this is coming from a PS4 digital gamer and PC. I do know. If you NEVER buy physical and don’t wanna watch a blu ray movie on disc, then of course digital makes the most sense. You read way too much into my post.
Hope that helps the intent of my post.Last edited by TheBleedingRed21; 09-28-2020, 08:18 AM.Comment

Fair enough, though I did say I am not trying to be, but obviously, that was leading to I am about to be. Reworded it to not come across as much hopefully. It is like saying, "No offense" then being offensive lol.Comment

I haven’t bought a physical game in forever, but physical definitely seems cheaper. Deals are usually better on sales and of course you could trade in a game once you’re done. I just prefer digital now.Comment

I think it’s more of the idea that the physical doesn’t,air you stuck in a decision. If I see a physical disc version on sale? I can get that. If I see digital on sale? I can get that. For us sports fans physical still makes sense because keeping say mlb 16,17,18,19 in 2020 makes no sense. Rather trade in yearly released sports games, even if it’s for 5-10 bucks because I don’t need any coasters.
That being said, if I could ONLY get the digital ps5 I would've (I do think it looks much better haha). I was lucky enough to get the disc version I wanted and can't wait to play all my discs AND digital games come November!Comment

Re: PlayStation 5 ($499) and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition ($399) - Releases on Novem
Granted, this doesn't apply to Xbox Series X like it does PlayStation 5 due to the variations of the two Xbox models while PlayStation is only excluding the disc drive but for me, buying a game digitally is about if im playing that game over a long term period like Valhalla or Cyberpunk in which I know I will be playing the expansions so all in for them digitally.
But for games like COD, Watch Dogs Legion, etc. in which im only going to play the base game and that's it, these are disc purchases as I want to get back half of what I spent on them.Comment

I agree with you 100%, but I’ll say this. Once the option for disks are gone I doubt the sales will always be good. Like you I’m also all digital.

Yup same here. I bought the Disk version since that was all I could secure when preorders started. I have been on the lookout for the digital version ever since. I am looking to score another one for my son so If I find a digital one I will keep the digital one for myself and just give my son the Disk based one. Hoping more preorders become available before launchPSN: ckarlic

New availability will be scattered here and there whenever retailers get told they'll be more consoles available to them."Listen son, you only have enough runs when you’re showering after a win."Comment
