PSSR 2 update starts to roll out tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing any improvements. I still feel like there isn't any pressing needs for PS6 or Xbox Project Helix next year. I rather see 2028 at the very earliest. Heck, I'll be good until 2030. We're just now leaving the last gen behind and starting to see what these consoles are capable of

Obviously there are external factors at play, but damn when you combine it with the GTA VI delays, the timing couldn't be any worse.
I suppose I could buy one now and save that money, but I'm still undecided whether I'll get a PS5 (or Pro) just for that game, or wait for its inevitable but delayed PC release.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60😂 1Comment

Re: PlayStation 5
I enjoy my PS5 Pro, and I think that the PSSR 2 makes a difference. I've only tested Spider-Man Remastered and Rise of the Ronin, but both games made a big jump with the PSSR 2. But I don't think the PS5 Pro is worth $900. Counting taxes, and if you want a disk drive, you're talking over $1000. PSSR 2 does seem like a game changer. But, it's all up to developer discretion. Sony can't force third party to integrate PSSR into their games. Heck, a lot of games didn't even make "Pro Enhanced" versions of games, hell, not even Next gen patches.
My problem with this console generation is that it could've been way better. The issue is that Sony tried to force the Live Service model and ended up canceling a lot of those games and shutting down studios. If Sony wouldve had more games, they could have better utilized the PS5 Pro. Even the Dual Sense hasn't been showcased like it could've been. In order to entice people to buy the PS5 Pro now, there needed to be more first-party games. It would've been nice for Spider-Man 2 to have DLC like Spider-Man. Games like that, GOW, Ratchet and Clank, The Last of Us 1/2, I played them twice, I don't plan on playing game just for PSSR 2. I probably won't play Ghost Of Yotei again for another year. I wouldn't buy PS5 Pro just for GTA 6. If someone is that concerned for visuals and framerates, you're better off waiting for PC release.
At this point, rumors are suggesting that the Next Gen Consoles could be released as early as next year. Unless Sony announces the PS6 this summer, I don't see them announcing the PS6 next year and releasing within that same year. Nevertheless, I don't think buying any of those PS5s makes too much sense at this point, unless you plan on waiting a few years to buy the PS6. It's looking like the PS6 might launch at $1000. I was fully prepared for $700-800 based on the launch of the PS5 Pro. I can afford the $1000 price tag and already plan on selling my base PS5 and Pro models prior to PS6 to combat the price. But sheesh $1000 is a lot a lot for a home console

Re: PlayStation 5
Sony raising prices is insane but not unexpected. Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony aren't going to take losses anymore. Those days are gone and the cost that they have to pay is simply being passed on to the consumers. AI causing companies to hoard RAM and other components has skyrocketed everything. But the companies won't be the losers. The consumers will be the losers.
PlayStation 6 will be $900 minimum but im expecting $1000 with their handheld being $800 minimum. I don't see Sony releasing in November 2027 but I do believe November 2028 is very realistic. Of course, cross-generation is probably going to last for all of next generation so those who have a PlayStation 5/Pro won't have any reason to upgrade.
Worse part is that everything is only going to get more expensive as time passes. Even if/when the components go back to normal, companies won't go back to the lower prices. Once they raise prices, it's not going back.Comment

Re: PlayStation 5
I agree about the price not coming back down.
I do wonder if they start to shift away from physical discs. Seen rumors that PS6 could come without disc drives in order to keep cost down. I hope publishers continue to utilize physical discs. I still use Gamefly because I'm not a collector and don't want deal with selling games. At the very least, I would hope current attachable disc drives are compatible with the PS6Comment

Re: PlayStation 5
Sony is reportedly 80% digital (Microsoft is reportedly over 90%) so im not expecting a disc drive for next generation. They could sell an add-on disc drive to make more money but I don't see them allowing you to use the PS5 add-on disc drive on your PS6. In fact, don't you have to register with the console or something like that so you can't use it on another PS5 console? Maybe im wrong on that, I don't know since im 90%+ digital.I agree about the price not coming back down.

We'll see how it all plays out. One thing that I do believe will backfire is if Sony pulls back from PC. They'll learn like EA, Ubisoft and others have learned. You don't abandon PC which is by far the biggest user install base of them all and you sure as hell don't abandon Steam.👍 1Comment

Re: PlayStation 5
I'm not as concerned about next generation's cross gen period being extended. If the entry cost is around $1000, it might start to become a little niche. Even with inflation, it's still a big mental hurdle going from spending $400-500 at launch to potentially $1000. I'll be able to afford at launch(plan on selling PS5 and Pro), but mentally the thought of spending around $1000 for a console I won't have ample time to play isn't something I fully comfortable with. Not to mention, game costs will rise. I expect GTA6 to release at $80+ and that will start the trend.
Also, I don't feel that we've seen these new consoles pushed to it's limit yet. We're just now leaving the cross gen period. Ray Tracing and SSD features were the main difference from cross gen games. I don't think we've seen a big leap from the PS4/XB1x. So if the PS5/XSX is the baseline for next gen, I do think the cross gen period will be better. Plus, we're hearing priority of Path Tracing, high GPU, and frame rates. I'm fine with visuals as they are. I want better CPU and game design👍 1Comment

Re: PlayStation 5
I do like the PSSR 2 update. Replayed Spider-Man, MM, and SM2. You can definitely see how good PSSR 2 can make some games. But, at the same time, how much of it is just "I haven't played this game in a while, and this new update is supposed to make it look better." But, Rise of Ronin definitely looked better. I played Rise of the Ronin on the base console. It looks like a remaster on the PS5 Pro with the PSSR 2 update.
The only downside is that it's up to developer discretion. A lot of games never got PS5 Pro enhanced or even original PSSR implementation. A lot of publishers aren't going to go out their way to add in a patch like that for free. There are a lot of PS4 games that I wished got 60 FPS patch..
