Originally posted by jmood88Exactly. I don't like dipset at all but if I'm at a party or something like that then I can listen to them and like the song but when I'm alone or I just want to chill somewhere then I'll listen to some little brother and ATCQ. I do listen to pretty much all indie/underground guys though but the mainstream guys have their place. I can't stand the radio because they play the same songs over and over again and never deviate from that playlist unless you listen to stations at 1 in the morning.Comment

Originally posted by GraphikYea, good post. I hated commercial hip hop with a passion at one time. It would be nice if we were offered a nice variety of music from time to time. Even a hour long segment dedicated to a certain hip hop genre."Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment

Re: Official OS Rap appreciation Topic!
Well, lately, I've been downloading old Ice Cube songs. I have "Today Was a Good Day", "Once Upon a Time in the Projects", "Steady Mobbin", "Jackin for Beats", "Check Yo Self", "The N You Love to Hate".
I've also threw in a lil NWA, with "Dopeman", "N's For Life", "F the Police". Music from that era is what I term "good" hip hop/rap music. I miss those days. No Bling, Bling. No "I got this many houses and cars". The lyrics were a lot more explicit back in those days but the music was good, so good that it's timeless.Last edited by SoMiss2000; 02-22-2006, 11:04 PM."Never trust a big butt and a smile."-Ricky Bell

Has anyone heard Lupe Fiasco's single called "KICK PUSH"? That song is real nice and now I'm waiting for his album to be out though I know it'll be a while.-Jay Illestrate, Emcee/Producer/Graphic Artist

Re: Official OS Rap appreciation Topic!
While I Am not a huge rap fan, I do like a lot of it.
However my choice will show off my age:
Jay-Z, Public Enemy, Ice Cube, Run DMC and Tupac are my faves. Beastie Boys License to Ill, and NWA's- Straight Outta Compton are also classics imo.Last edited by bkrich83; 02-23-2006, 04:07 AM.Comment

Re: Official OS Rap appreciation Topic!
Originally posted by ehhEverything has it's place. There's a time to listen to Immortal Technique and there's a time and situation to listen to Dipset.
The problem is, as Phonte said in an interview, is there is no balance on TV and the radio anymore. It's all the same crap and it's just overkill of that certain type of hip-hop (the dance/club/pop hip-hop).
Back in the day you could listen to the radio and hear ATCQ, Digital Underground, Salt-N-Peppa, the Beastie Boys and NWA in the same hour. Nowadays there is no variety in the mainstream. These poor idiotic mainstream sheep who only watch TRL will never have a clue what they're missing. But also as Phonte said, it wouldn't be good for hip-hop if everyone bit ATCQ and that's all the radio ever played.
We just need some more balance. Cause I sure as hell don't want to hear Nelly at 1pm on a Tuesday afternoon. He's for when I'm drinkin/partying and on the rare occasions when I'm wasted enough to dance. And at the same time, I don't want to hear Black Moon at midnight on a Saturday. And with the third pick - I made the earth sick
