Meh...I understand the appeal of ppl wanting to find authentic hip hop music since the majority of commercial rap is buttass right now but as much of a music fan I am, I cant find the time to get into the underground circuit. I got Murs, I got Little Brother(I really like them) I got Masta Ace, I got Jedi Mind Tricks, and I'm still the biggest Necro fan on the planet. Its just that as I got older, I feel the need to dance instead of the normal head bob. Something that the attracts the ladies to you. I've been going to more clubs lately and I'm starting to really enjoy the commercial aspect of hip hop cause its premise is more sociable.
Dont shoot me because I hated commercial hip hop like most of you guys here and I strived to find "real" artist who have more subject matter and diverse content besides the sex, drugs and candy paint of todays music. I give up though. I cant find the time to get into underground music like I used to. My baby girl likes the commercial music and we dance to that. I go to clubs and thats all the DJ plays. I go to a friends house and its mixtape madness with punchlines and metaphors and I'm losing the appeal of it.
To tell the truth, I dont know whats wrong with me. In between video games, my gf, my daughter, movies and social functions, I cant find many friends who share a common bond with the underground movement. I've tried on many occasions to get them into the Murs and the Little Brothers but if they aint popular artist, they look at it like its a demo tape. I love hip ho music but I feel its time to go with the flow. Go with whatever the radio and television forces down my throat. I hate that its gotten like this but I simply dont have the time and patience like I used to. Whats happening to me??http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

i like everything , as long as i find it good (duh). doesnt matter if its commercial or underground.
hell jay-z is my favorite rapper of all-time and hes far from backpacker. theres a time and a place for all-rap. club music is meant for the club. i dont want that ish all over radio and bet. i dont even watch bet anymore. sorry but i cant just go with the flow. its not that hard to get into the underground and you act like its really time consuming. we all have lives but whatever floatsd your boat ."something that attracts the ladies to you" ? wtf? ppl need to listen to a certain music to have ladies attracted to them?
sorry but i feel 90% of the music found on bet or the radios is garbage and a disgrace to rap. im not trying to sound like an "elitist" but thats just the way i feel. i also hate jamming to music that 13 year girls and wanna be hip soccer moms roll to.
i have friends like yours. wont listen to anything thats not popularn, its not surprising that most of them are younger than me. while my older friends are the ones that ive gotten into murs and little brother etc etc . i really dont care though , i cant go with the flow.
excuse my grammar , i suck at it.Last edited by kuruption; 02-22-2006, 01:26 PM.And with the third pick - I made the earth sick

I donno man, its just my mood. I have'nt been in a head bobbin mode in quite some time. I dont even care much for listening to lyrics and hope that a song has a good beat moreso. I'm starting to dig the diffrent styles that you find in most commercial music. I have no clue what happened to me. And this is from a guy that use to write lyrics daily.
The time consuming part is searching for artist that fit the mold of criteria I was searching for. Without this site, I would of never found Murs and Little brother, I would of been taking gambles like I used to. What I'm saying is I dont have the time to gamble anymore. After I wear out these cats cds, I need someone else to provide a fix and thats where the search comes from.
I dont watch BET or MTV no more myself. I do watch MTV Jams, MTV2 and VH1 Soul for videos. Yes, the music is a disgrace to rap but I'm starting to feel like I need to get with the times instead of complain about it like I used to. I just need to stop looking for good music and let the good music find me. After accepting that, I have grown more toleratable to the commercial rap scene.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

I was real hardcore with rap. Its all I lived and breathed. After I had my daughter, I noticed I did'nt have time to sit at the computer with my headphones on and listen to entire cds like I used to.
Wait......I think I firgured it out. It just hit me. During the last year, I slowed down on my green smoking alot until I recently stopped this past new years. Trees and music went hand and hand to me. I did'nt need one to enjoy the other, I just prefered doing both at the same time.
After I stopped, I haven't really been into music like I used to. Damn, I cant see why I did'nt notice that.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Re: Official OS Rap appreciation Topic!
Everything has it's place. There's a time to listen to Immortal Technique and there's a time and situation to listen to Dipset.
The problem is, as Phonte said in an interview, is there is no balance on TV and the radio anymore. It's all the same crap and it's just overkill of that certain type of hip-hop (the dance/club/pop hip-hop).
Back in the day you could listen to the radio and hear ATCQ, Digital Underground, Salt-N-Peppa, the Beastie Boys and NWA in the same hour. Nowadays there is no variety in the mainstream. These poor idiotic mainstream sheep who only watch TRL will never have a clue what they're missing. But also as Phonte said, it wouldn't be good for hip-hop if everyone bit ATCQ and that's all the radio ever played.
We just need some more balance. Cause I sure as hell don't want to hear Nelly at 1pm on a Tuesday afternoon. He's for when I'm drinkin/partying and on the rare occasions when I'm wasted enough to dance. And at the same time, I don't want to hear Black Moon at midnight on a Saturday."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Yea, good post. I hated commercial hip hop with a passion at one time. It would be nice if we were offered a nice variety of music from time to time. Even a hour long segment dedicated to a certain hip hop genre.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment
