    Here is my prediction:

Michael is setting a trap. The others released him and instructed him to tell the castaways that the others were lightly armed and ready to be taken over. If he leads them into this trap, they promise to give him Walt back.

      I can see that happening.

Didn't think about that, but it makes total sense.

So would it be safe to assume that there is a volcano on this island? Those all looked like volcanic rocks that Bernard collected.

I don't really think it's safe to assume anything about this show.

Re: "Lost" Season 2 discussion thread (Spoilers for the West Coast)...

This show is starting to wear me out. Look at this thread, earlier in the season, the show was like 24, posts throughout the episodes. But now, after 2 ep's, then 2 week vacation, back to an episode, then back on vacation, rinse/repeat, people lost interest. Their ratings have flattened out and the show is fizzling. It's almost as if the writers really have no end to all the stuff going on and just throwing out new items here and there. As I told my wife while watching last night, the show just doesn't have any focus. I mean, Michael has been gone a week or so (Lost time) and no one even seemed to care or miss him. Wouldn't someone had mentioned his name in the last 5-6 episodes? Walt either, last night was the first time Walt was mentioned in forever, ironic that it's also where Michael appears again.

I loved the first season, and enjoyed the way the 2nd started off, but now, this show is going no where and is just circling the same storylines to me. There's never an answer to anything, just more questions. There is no way they can even remotely explain half the crap they have planted over the last 2 seasons. Even when this show is over, I can gurantee most of the questions will never have an answer. Just growing tired of it.

This pretty much echoes everything I've been saying all along. The writing has holes in it. The list is too long to mention, but the writers are intentionally changing the plot as the series progresses. My problem with the show as I have said before is that it is not like a puzzle to figure out. The question has no answer at this point, its like a never ending story. I think originally the writers had a purpose in mind with a concrete storyline, but they have abandoned that out of possible arrogance as people started figuring out where they were going with all this. I believe the original premise for the show was figured out rather quickly and now the writers are trying to back pedal an maneuver in new directions that keep the public "Lost".

There was really no need to have a whole Bernard & Rose episode. Lat night was filler. Its pretty clear that the island helped Locke walk again, we didn't need Rose and Bernard thrown in there to make that point. I enjoy the show, but after this season, I will not watch season 3 until its out on DVD and I can watch it all at once so I don't have to put up with the 3 week layoffs in between episodes.

Yes, we knew that the island had somehow miraculously healed Locke's disability. What we didn't know was that someone on the island had actually seen him in his wheelchair before the flight and was aware that he was somehow cured after the crash. Locke has went out of his way numerous times to make sure that no one found out that he was crippled before all this happened, that is his one big secret, and now someone knows. Also, the healing power of the island leads us to another interesting storyline now as well... Jin's impotence. Perhaps it was healed as well, and he is actually the father of the child Sun is now carrying, not, as she is likely assuming the bald guy. So, that is probably going to lead to Sun at some point telling the truth to Jin about having an affair and almost certainly telling him that the child he believes to be his, actually isn't. When in all actuality, it probably is.

As for all the directions and twists the show has, of course that is going to be the case. Look at the size of the ensemble cast here. I mean, sure, one could make the argument here that Jack is the lead character, but really, we have like fifteen to twenty actual storylines going on here once you factor in backstories. So, of course there are going to be times where someone goes without being mentioned, or seen, for weeks on end. It simply isn't possible to progress every single storyline during the course of the 45 or so minutes the show has each week. And it's especially hard to move onward with something like the kidnapping of Walt and Michael's search for him when there is no actual interaction with other survivors and both are presumed to be, pardon the pun, lost.

I love the show. Why? Everything has a purpose. Every little minute detail is a hint towards something, or an illusion to how Person A and Person B may somehow have had their path's cross prior to ending up on the island together. Simply put, it keeps me thinking. Even when there is an episode like last night where it focused around minor characters like Bernard and Rose, you begin to understand just where they are coming from, how they ended up on the island, and what their role in the grand scheme of things actually is. I can never remember a show that has such amazing depth in it's character development.

As for the breaks during the season? It's already been said, but, everyone is just spoiled by 24. The way that FOX handles it has thrown everyone's perspective of how a show should run way out of whack. What ABC does with Lost is no different than what any other network does with their normal hour-long dramas.

While I agree with your points in theory, there are way too many inconsistencies in the storyline.

The ratings drop really had nothing to do with the storyline and everything to do with American Idol's result show airing against it.

I'm sure AI hurt it, but the ratings started to drop in February. This is before the recap show was on Weds, but during all the repeats. I'm sure AI has affected it even more now though.

it's still top 10 in ratings... while it has dropped, it's not falling off the planet by any means.... IMO they're on much safer ground than Desperate Housewives.
