with dish network and DTV, you don't need a set top box. I have Direct TV, but I know Dish Network will give you the HD box for free, DTV charges you for it. HD package is $10 per month extra.

What do you mean you don't need it for HDTV with D*TV? How can you possibly get high def with no set top box?

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

I'll clarify, i'm sure he means that you don't need an additional set top box for receiving the hd-channels via satellite and for the hd-locals. when you get your high-def equipment with D*, you'll get your hd-sat and an hd-receiver. this receiver will receive both your hd-locals (with help from an antenna), and your hd over the sat (via the Hd-package at $10.99)

I hear some people dropping D*TV's hi def service because they aren't getting enough channels, and are tired of seeing the same thing. do you know if they are planning on doing anything this year to add more channels?

they are adding more channels this year. I heard the HD channels will double. If you have an HDTV and are not watching HD, then you are missing out big time.

Re: What is the difference between HDTV and EDTV

It looks like I'm going to have to get Direct TV, since Cox doesn't service the town I will be living in. How much does it cost for the basic HD set-up (meaning a package without all the premium channels). If you could break it down by component (i.e. $50 per month + $10 for HD) that would be great. Thanks guys!

*EDIT: Actually, what's better...Dish Network or Direct TV (or is there a third option that I'm forgetting). Thanks again!*
