Re: What is the difference between HDTV and EDTV

Okay guys in 3 or 4 months I'm going to be taking the plunge into the HDTV world and I have some questions. I'm really stuck on what kind of TV to get. I've done extensive research on the TVs I'm thinking of getting, but all have pro's and cons.

    Should I get a 4:3 (CRT at least 36 inch) or a 16:9 (LCD RPTV 42 inch)?

    Current viewing habits:
My wife and I watch mostly network TV now. Obviously, I put the Xbox and PS2 to work a lot. We watch, maybe, two DVDs a month. Most of my viewing habits favor a 4:3 screen. But that might be, because I've only ever had a 4:3. How much would I be missing if I didn't get a 16:9 set?

I know that a HDTV will not improve the now existing analog signal, but do broadcasts look better on digital cable? What will happen in 2006-2007 when all broadcasts have to be digital?

ive saving cash for a HDTV ASAP. I saw my uncles this past weekend. I hadnt really seen a life bball game on one of them and i was AMAZED. YOU CAN SEE THE WHOLE COURT!!!

This was just a local channel too, not even ESPNHDTV.

I dont want flatscreen or nothing, just a typical big *** 36-60 inch HDTV. what am i looking at, 3 grand?

I wouldn't say you'll miss anything if you don't get a widescreen but LCD tv's seem to show colors and what not better than regular rptv's. I've only heard of people seeing rainbow like colors at angles with the LCD tv's though, which may not be much anyway. I'd get the LCD if it was me.

What hdtv service are you getting?

I just ordered Voom today to lease the equipment.

Called, and had an account made for myself. Haven't called with the cc info yet, and install date. Will do tonight.

So I ordered the rental for $0 down. They will install the dish OTA antenna and two recievers. With the 39.90 package and those rentals I'll be paying 63.00 plus tax which should come to around 66 a month, and they won't charge my cc until after the first 30 days from the installation date. !!

This is the TV I had my heart set on42" Grand Wega. After doing a lot of research on it and finding that the TV has problems, I'm not so sure.

My second choice is the KV-40XBR800 the bad thing about this one is the weight.

I'm just not sure what direction to go in. All the research I'm doing is just driving me crazy and not really pushing me in any direction.

I'm going to go with Cox Cable. Right now they have 10 HD channels. They also provide a HD DVR which will be nice. I'm really basing my decision on ease of installation. I've seen the VOOM commercials and I'm interested in how your experience goes.

I'll let you know about Voom. Picking the tv depends on what you want. What exactly are you looking for? Maybe we can all help.

I'm looking into DLP sets. They are a little more expensive, but I think they are gorgeous. Samsung and RCA makes them.
