yes, it is the acutal standard for hd-tv. it is only better because it outputs a progressive scan picture, as for 1080i which is interlaced. once 1080p is out, that will be the best

Re: What is the difference between HDTV and EDTV

2 quick questions, bear with me i know i ask alot but i know nothing about hd...

with a wide screeen hd tv will all games and shows that arent in hd or widescreen format appear in 4:3 wuith black bars on each end of the screen or will the image be inflated to compensate for the widescreen

I notice most game support 480p. Is that image substantially beter than a regular tv image? I know its a form of high definition but 480 lines doesnt sound like alot

            thanks

My 480p games (Madden, Live, NCAA, Links, NFL Street) do not fill the screen unless I set the TV to "Full". When I do this the image is stretched. (I do have the Xbox set to widescreen and 480p is enabled)

As far as 4:3 content "filling" the screen, it can happen for me again by setting the view to "full" This again streches the picture.

I can handle stretching video games, but I don't like stretching regular cable shows. The PQ of regular cable isn't that good as it is, stretching it makes it even worse IMO.

I just had to say that I ordered Voom, and the installer will be at my new home on the morning of May 11, the day after all my furniture arrives. Hopefully ESPN will be included by then!

Could someone tell me if it is really worth using the digital cable for the 5.1 sound from the TV? I only have to digital inputs on my receiver and I have them currently occupied with my Xbox (which I play most of my games on...especially sports) and for my DVD player. Should I switch the Xbox one for the TV? Thanks for all your help!
