Well of course it's not hooked to anything now that you have your DLP

I have a spare 32" Sony tube (old 4:3 type) that's only connected to my Gamecube...and the only reason I have ANYTHING hooked to it is that my TV stand doesn't really have the space (and I'm not going to reorganize my components until I move later this year).

Yeah, poor old TV's, once at a time they were prime time and now they're relegated to nothing or Gamecube, dunno which of those two fates is worse either, LOL. I could probably sell my 30" Samsung if I advertised it but I'm too lazy to do that and besides as I said, I guess I do need a TV for the living room whenever I get that furniture set back up. It's sure going to be strange though having a 50" in the bedroom and having a much smaller set in the living room.

I know what you mean about old TV's. When I got my DLP and put it in the Living Room, I moved the TV that was in that area to my bedroom, moved the TV from my bedroom into my study (converted second bedroom) and moved the TV from my study into my basement so I have something to watch while working out.

My parent's laugh at me because they have a huge house with many more rooms and have less TV's than I do. Granted the TV in my study is almost never on, but I couldn't do nothing with it!

which of these is the best tv calibration dvd to use?

          http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_e/...&Go.y=11&Go=Go

EDIT: I was looking at the product reviews and it looks like the AVIA is MUCH more preferred over the VE disc? Is this normal?

Man I was just on craigslist and just for Richmond there are a ton of HDTV's for sale. I guess we on OS aren't the only ones upgrading to bigger and better (1080p) sets.

Alright i need a little help....

I got my 42" Panny Plasma about a year ago and had my whole house re-wired for cable/hdtv. Everything was great but now theres a little problem..
It seems that the picture from the channel i was just on gets mixed in with the new picture, and that the channels are like lagging. It's nothing to do with burn-in, its something about like a lagging picture. It's got so bad that i called cable and they're sending a guy out thursday but i was wondering if there is anything i should try.

I already rebooted the cable box and made sure all the plugs were in..

Any help would be appreciated, thx for your time!

You need to look for "Digital Video Essentials" not "Video Essentials" (though they are by the same group). DVE is the newer disc and is a "bit" more accurate than AVIA. AVIA is an older disc. I prefer DVE because the patterns are a bit more thorough and AVIA has an error in the grayscale.

You can also look for the Monster/ISF DVD which has the same patterns that Windows Media Center comes with (VERY user friendly and not at all technical) or register at avsforum or go to calibrate.tv for a usermade calibration disc. I prefer the latter actually, though you will have to buy a blue filter (THX offers blue glasses for cheap) and burn the disc yourself. I've found it to be the most accurate though.

                Good luck!

well based on your input, I'll probably go for the Monster/ISF dvd, I'm all about user friendly and not at all technical. I don't know what half of this crap means, I just want the best picture possible.

Both DVE and AVIA offer tutorials and "official" test patterns (you'll learn about SMPTE color bars), for pure simplicity the Monster/ISF DVD is the best. The patterns worked pretty good on my flatscreen LCD monitor (running WinXP MCE) and the brightness and contrast are very easy to tune in. You can adjust grayscale with the patterns as well. The only weak spot is checking the color decoder (Color/Hue controls) but the SXRD is pretty accurate out of the box.

Put $1g down, financed the rest.
The 50" SXRD's have been discontinued?, I thought they were coming out with a different version of the SXRD later this summer, but didn't think they would discontinue the model this early. Can anyone clarify this?

They are shifting the production facilities to the new models. It's not because of defects or anything like that. They just aren't making any more of the XBR1.

Do you think the supply will still be available to snatch one in August, and do you think the new models will be at the same price bracket?

they only have 55" and 60" models of the new versions on the sony website, so maybe they will keep the old 50" around since its so popular.

The same price bracket as six months ago, if that's what you mean. Look for a base of around $2800 for the 50", give or take.

Sony is releasing two models with the SXRD/LCoS technology this year, The XBR2 and the A2000.

Johnny, we looking at any substantial differences between the upcoming models and will the price be worth the differences (if any)??
