Hey billmatic,
I'm another of the SXRD owners here and found something interesting over at avsforum. They mention early tests using the Samsung Blu Ray player and that when running 1080i and letting the SXRD deinterlace to 1080p versus a straight 1080p signal that there is no difference at all. The SXRD also passes all the 1080 resolution tests with no problems, so my thinking is that the 1080p inputs might just be marketing hype if the deinterlaced 1080i is identical.

Hey I'm moving into a new apartment with a friend in September and am on a tight budget. It's my responsibility to provide the TV system for the crib.
Can I find a half decent flat tube HDTV for no more than $500 that will not crap out on me in a year and will still look good?
Or should I just find a cheaper standard definition TV for now, and make a larger investment in a couple years on a sick HDTV when I have more money? I definitely can not afford a nasty +35" LCD HDTV on my current budget..Comment

Those will be coming out in September. Also, even if you're not wanting or caring about the 1080P issue, realize that whenever a new model comes out the old model goes down in price so unless you want a Sony set right now and can't wait, it would be better to wait until September to purchase. But if I were you i'd just go ahead and buy a Samsung....oh wait, that's what I did! LOL!Comment

Hey guys, I need some help with my HDTV. I have a 50" Toshiba Rear Projection (50H82) that I bought 4 years ago. I have this situation where when I turn on the TV I get a bit of distortion at the top of the screen for about a few minutes and then it disappears. When I turn on my 360, I get the same distortion for about a few minutes. It then goes away.
I have my 360 hooked up to the TV directly via Monster Component Cables and my DVR is hooked up to a Component Switch box that is powered. Now the component switch box has the DVR and DVD Player connected.
My stereo is not turned on so I'm not getting interference from the speaker wire.
-None of my DVD movies ever have distortion which this player is hooked up via component.
-My DVR has distortion when I turn the TV on and it is hooked up via component. I have tried 2 different sets of components.
-My 360 gets a bit of distortion for a minute or so and is hooked up directly to the TV.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this problem? I'm at a loss, and I'm afraid that there could be something wrong with the TV which would really suck. I was thinking there could be a problem with the panel in the back of the TV where the component inputs plug in, but the s-video in the back has no problems.
UPDATE:
To further describe the problem:
has been having mainly analog-TV-reception distortion upon startup, lingering (yet clearing up slightly) for about 10 minutes thereafter. HUGE wavy lines/distortion/flutter while the set 'warms up,' then after about 5-10 minutes, the distortion clears up. The 'test' of this can be done by viewing images with sharp edges, or white-upon-black sharp images.
Is there a way to repair this (for a minimal cost) or is this just the start of the TV-set "dying" on me, and is irrepairable? (is it the "tube" inside?) I've checked all my cable connections from the cable box (digital/HD receiver) and from the line into the house itself, and again it's not just the TV signal that's distorted but also the the XBOX 360 (all those cords are working fine.)Last edited by CaptainZombie; 07-17-2006, 12:30 AM.Comment

Have you recently placed a speaker, or moved a speaker near the TV? Or anything with a magnet?
Or one of your lenses could be off and need to be replaced.
Your best bet is to do a search on AVS or google with your issue. And/or possibly call a TV repair man. It could be dying, not really sure. I've never owned a projection set, so I can't tell you anything for sure.Comment

I was doing some searching last night and found one guy with the same problem, but nobody ever replied to him. LOLI was worried that there might be a problem with the board that the components/s-video are connected to. Like you said Extreme, it could be a lense.
If it's too much to repair, I don't know what I will do.
Does anyone know how Projection LCD's are? Are they any good?Comment
