You're right. Either the writers screwed up, or Logan got a second term.

EDIT: Looking into it, Day 5 takes place 18 months after Day 4. Day 4 takes place 18 months after Day 3, at the end of which, Palmer decided not to seek re-election. In that timeframe, it's impossible that there could've been two elections, so it seems that either the writers screwed up, or I'm overlooking something.

It would have to involve the Vice President, imo. He seems like his plan for martial law was alittle to pre-planned.

I figure it is still the same term that he took over for Keeler. Amendment 25 of the Constitution states that if a VP becomes President, then the new President will nominate a new VP that both Houses of Congress must approve. I guess that's what happened here.

I believe if a President is assassinated, the VP moves to President and then the Speaker of the House is next in command, moving to VP.

If the VP dies, the President nominates a successor, who has to be voted in by Congress.

If both die at the same time - the Speaker of the House becomes President.

Here's an interview with Dennis Haysbert about his new show The Unit. But in the interview he speaks about being killed off in 24. He seemed like he wasn't too happy about it and wasn't going to film it. I guess he finally gave in and agreed to film it. Evidently it was during season 4 that he learned he was going to be killed off. It is a CBS article promoting their own show, so the interview could have been skewed against FOX.

"For the longest time, I refused to do it," he told Storm. "They called me up during lunch during the third episode I was back, in the fourth season, and said, 'We're going to kill your character.' And I said, 'OK, good luck with that. I won't be shooting it.' "

I don't know. I saw a few commercials for it last night during How I Met Your Mother. There's a preview on www.cbs.com today. I'm not a very big fan of army shows and movies, but I'll give it a try out of 24 loyalty.
