Since Giamatti just got nominated, i wanted to make sure that people know aobut his best performance in "American Splendor." Very funny and unique movie about actual events of a Comic Book author, Harvey Pikar which he also narrates in the whole movie

Also saw Donnie Darko for the first time a couple weeks ago and thats probably Jakes Gyllenhalls best performance that i've seen.

I've always wanted to see American Splendor, but never have. I just added it to my Blockbuster queue, thanks.

As for Gyllenhall, I think he is a pretty good actor. I never made it all the way through Donnie Darko but I have liked his acting in October Sky, The Good Girl, and Brokeback Mountain (although I think Ledger and Williams were the best in the movie). It wasn't till recently that I realized he had a small part as the kid in City Slickers :y4:

I just did a search for this movie because I watched it last night, and saw this post so I wanted to add to it.

This was an excellent movie, with so many twists and turns to the plot.

I'd definitely suggest it to anyone.

Great flick, I couldnt believe that Dustin Hoffman played this type of role. This movie was indeed a classic.

If you havent seen it it, check it out. I just seen this movie the other night on DISH.

I think alot of you are starting to name movies that were once popular or are cult classics. Some of the suggestions I've seen are hardly overlooked.

I got one for yall though, just seen it yesterday on HBO.

The Terminal starring Tom Hanks. Reminded me alot of Castaway as the story revolved strictly around him and his trails and tribs. Superb acting by Hanks as well. If its been mentioned already, disregard.
That was a good one... and CZJ was lookin hot as usual

There have been a lot of good suggestions here...

                  How about:

                  Shallow Grave
Without Limits(the superior of two relatively recent movies about Steve Prefontaine)
100 Girls (just something about it always appealed to me)
The China Syndrome (a great Jack Lemmon performance... though it may not qualify as overlooked)

And honestly, I feel that A Bridge Too Far really doesn't get its due as both an awesome war movie and one of the best movies from 1977(it was a busy, busy year for films)

Ok, here goes my list, some have been mentioned

                          1. Way of the Gun - Benecio Del Toro, Ryan Phillippe, James Caan, Taye Diggs; two "bad guys" kidnap a serrogate mother
                          2. Payback - Mel Gibson; just wants to get his money back, no matter what it takes
                          3. Boondock Saints - two brothers find themselves on a path of justice against evil-doers.
                          4. Pi - very freaky movie, but interesting all the same, about how a particular number string can be the answer to life's questions
                          5. State & Main - William H Macy, Sara Jessica Parker, Alec Baldwin, Phillip Seymour Hoffman; big movie production takes over a small town
                          6. Big Trouble - Tim Allen, Johnny Noxville; two idiot crooks steal something that could cause Big Trouble

I agree with you on Way of the Gun, but I found Boondock Saints to be lousy. I truly don't understand why this movie has gained such a cult following over the last few years. Ditto for Donnie Darko, although I did like that much more than Boondock.

Ghost Dog definitely... about Boondock though... eh, thats why they make all sorts of different movies. btw, a few more now that Im home and can look at my collection

-The Princess Bride - Fred Savage, Peter Falk (Colombo), Andre the Giant, Billy Crystal; ignore the title... great movie... "A classic fairy tale, with swordplay, giants, an evil prince, a beautiful princess, and yes, some kissing (as read by a kindly grandfather). "

-Clue - Tim Curry, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean; the board game put into a hilarious movie

-Behind Enemy Lines - Gene Hackman, Owen Wilson; plane shot down over Bosnia, military must try to get pilot out... it got lost in all of the other action/war movies that came out at the same time of it

-Memento - already mentioned, but defintely one you should check out if you havent

-Sneakers - Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, Dan Akroyd; "Complex but lighthearted thriller about computers and cryptography, government and espionage, secrets and deception and betrayal."

-Deuces Wild - Stephen Dorff, Brad Renfro, Franki Muniz, Matt Dillon; "1950's New York City... a tale of lust, drugs, mayhem and madness during one hot summer on the streets of New York."
