since i cleaned up my computer, my DSL based computer is running pretty fast as well...
exactly, I deleted a lot of media off my pc, and it's so much faster. Doesn't take 5 minutes to boot XP anymore.

i have comcast digital cable, and I have no complaints other than it doesn't look as good on my hdtv as Directv did.

another reason i want a faster internet service is b/c I lost a couple of thousand songs when my hard drive crashed a few days ago. It would take forever to re download those files with dial up. I got a qusetion for you guys, how long does it take to download a song. With my dial up its 4 to 5 kbps. what would it be with cable or DSL.

Probably about 30 seconds to 1 minute.

if you get cable, dont rent the modem. you can buy one. we bought one 2 years ago around Christmas for $30. The rental was like 12 bucks a month.

Where do you live? I know Verizon offers DSL in the northeast much cheaper than $60 a month. Most likely, unless you live in a very small town, you'd be using their lines anyway. Once again, if you actually call up, you can get the installation fee waived.

we used to have sbc dsl and it would dowload like 175-200kbs. then we swtiched to roadrunner a few years ago and speeds are like 600-625kbs, big difference.

One thing to remember. If you buy the modem, you lose technical support from the ISP on the hardware.
