I'd put it more on the parents. I'm 23 and my mom would give me a five knuckle shuffle if I cursed in front of her. A swift slap in the mouth would stop all the cursing, no matter what they listen to or watch.

I'm 19 and in that "cursing generation" I guess, but I would never swear in front of my parents or my oldest sister or really any other "elders". I just don't see the need to around them, even though the occasional four letter word slips out in front of my mom when I'm pissed.

But just look at people's MySpace profiles. They're covered with nothing but garbage tYpInG lIkE tHiS and using just the worst slang in the world (yes, with cursing) and just horrible rap songs, etc. People think they're too good as themselves, and just do this unbearable showboating that is because of MTV and rap.

I'm 29, I have never swore one time in front of my parents, just find it totally disrespectful.

I'm 28, and have only sworn a few times in front of my parents my entire life. I think it's disrespectful.

First of all, this show is basically set up

Second, if its not set up like that, then the parents hate the kid and kid hates the parents, and they might as well do whatever they want because its out in the open

I curse when hanging out with friends or something, but cant imagine doing it around any adult, let alone my parents or the parents of a good friend.

I'm almost 30 and I still won't curse in front of my parents. What happened to showing a bit of respect? I'm sure MTV told them to spice it up, but then again, I've seen instances where the child curses the parent out and it just was not like that when i was growing up.
I don't know but these kids are pretty spoiled. I've never cursed around my mom or dad and my mom was about to hit me when she though I said "what the hell" around her lol.

Rap has nothing to do with that. People are always trying to find some reason for things even when they don't know what they're talking about or know nothing about the music they are trying to blame. You don't even listen to rap so how would you know about that? And what would music have to do with anything? Music doesn't force people to do anything and you never see any videos or hear songs where rappers are cursing at their parents.

People saying this ignorant crap really gets on my nerves. Everytime a genre of music gets popular it is blamed for the "ills" of the kids growing up in the generation. Jazz was said that it was going to destroy the youth, rock was the same, and now it's raps turn.

Exactly. My mom doesn't even have to hit me I just know what will happen if I do. I mean if it's a joke or I'm telling a story and it happened then she doesn't have a problem but if I just started cursing in front of her she would slap the **** outta me.
