It's really just my opinion, I know that. But, I've grown up with people that have been raised different ways, and I can sometimes tell what kind of music they listen to because the way they are (and no, it's not the other way around).

    But I suppose you're right.

You must know some pretty stereotypical people then.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Re: So when did it become cool to curse.....

I'm in the demographic being discussed here, so I'll throw in my piece. I don't cuss (or curse) in the first place, but I would never consider cussing around my parents. I don't even say 'bullcrap' 'pissed off' or 'sucks' around my parents, because that's how they raised me.

As for music, I listen to lots of different types of music, and I will say that while repetitve cussing in music brings the words to mind more often that the people you interact with are more likely to 'cause' you to curse. Sure, the lyrics in music affect you, but I think in some people it causes no noticible change (like me) and in others it changes their whole thought process.

Still, this can't all go on rap. I have to admit that rap isn't my favorite genre, but frequent cursing in music also has to be attributed to rock (and its sub-genres) and other types of music. Sure cussing is prominent in rap, but it is just as present in other music forms as well.

        And MTV sucks...the end.

IMO it's not as much about the cussing as it is with the slang and the verbal use/abuse that some of these rappers have. I mean, I can't even repeat it on this site without getting a trip to the cell. It can get so harsh, and yet these parents allow their children to listen to it. My little sister is starting to get into it, and I'm trying to get her out as quickly as possible. Believe me... I have a feeling it may affect her in some way later down the road.

Punk rock can definitely go in the same category with the cursing. I don't even think that I mentioned rock... but if I were to, I would be speaking of alternative rock.

Perhaps if the parents were to actually enforce some rules their children wouldn't be repeating such phrases. Blaming music/media is a cop-out in my opinion.

First off I would never curse in front of my parents. I have to much respect for them to do that.

Blzer,I am old school and I agree with you on this. I have seen a huge change in my community in the last 10 years. Less respect for women and people in general. I do think music has alot to do with it.

JMood. I looked at some lyrics from Murs and I can't help but think if a weak minded person listens to this type of language long enough they will start using it. If you don't think music has changed our community in the last 10 years listen to "Front Street" on WVKO 1580 am weekday mornings from 8 to 10 if you can. Robert Trayler is a brother that can explain it better than me.
