This is a great movie, but I never found it hilarious. It's biting satire, and very humorous, but I never thought of it as a laugh out loud movie.

      You guys are scaring me.

I just watched it again, and while I love what this movie represents, it sure becomes a much darker, more serious movie after the first 20 minutes or so. But that opening conversation is pretty damn funny.

The first time I saw the movie the only part I laughed at was when he went through the revolving door, came back in, to kill the girl and then went back around. Hilarious.

The second time through it was all gravy though, a priceless movie.

I finally saw this and it's probably the weirdest movie I've ever seen.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

                      since the thread's still going...

After watching him get progressively less and less cautious, did anyone else have the "Oh sh*t" feeling when he stumbled on a gun? The whole thing was just perfectly done. Definitely one of my favorite movies.

Haha, well i'm watching this on Blu-Ray and holy crap this movie is awesome. I had forgotten how awesome it really was. It really connects with me in it's message. IMO it's saying that so many of us are so caught up in our own little worlds that we don't even notice when a monster is amongst us so long as the monster appears as a clean, well groomed upward mobile acceptable part of our society. Anyone feel me?

Definitely - the book really drives that theme home, as well.

that's cool you see where i'm coming from because the movie has many theories. I think this movie is the only movie i've ever seen where it really nails the fact you might say to someone something like "I'd like to skin you alive" and although they think you're kidding and you somewhat think that you're kidding as well, you honestly know to yourself your really would like to skin that person alive.

It's basically a very human emotion I think. The entire joking persona with ghoulish remarks that are really quite based in truth, appealing to our basic instincts. Because really underneath we are all Patrick Batemans.

Also, I really love how Patrick is a fan of pop culture and very obsessed with it but really doesn't understand why any of it appeals to him. It's just freakin' killer writing. I should read the book, I'll bet it's so much better than the movie. Oh and the sex scene, how about that huh? He is not even enjoying the sexual aspect but enjoying more the fact that he looks good on film. What a wonderful commentary on our society. Genius.

Yeah, definitely pick up the book. Its a good read, even though it can go into too much detail, but it helps nail down a lot of the themes. Its a great look at the whole 80s lifestyle with a couple memorable moments involving Tom Cruise and U2.
