If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :) -
Re: fans of underground rap?
I don't necessarily think it's his flow...more of the subject matter is what changes. I think that is why he has fallen off in my eyes ever since he hooked up with Young Money. Room for Improvement, Comeback Season, and So Far So Gone were all damn good and original. But everything that has come out since has been sub-par in comparison.Comment

Re: fans of underground rap?
When guys like Drake blow up, why don't they put someone like Phonte on a track? They know they are going to get radio play, why not expose someone like Phonte (who Drake said was his favorite rapper) and give them the exposer they need.Comment

Re: fans of underground rap?
It's because of phonte's lyrical content. He's too real and too intelligent - I mean, I'm still scratching my head as to how "I'm lovin' it" got banned from bet.Cameras or guns, one of them is gonna shoot me to death.Comment

Re: fans of underground rap?
It's not Drake's responsibility to do that but it is funny how he says that Phonte is his favorite rapper and Little Brother did a song with him when they were much more famous than he was but he doesn't have them on any songs now that he's a bigger name.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Re: fans of underground rap?
Yeah man, I agree. I just don't get it. Maybe the people up top won't let it happen, but I doubt if someone who is going to make money like Drake wanted to put Phonte on a song, they are going to fight too hard with Drake to stop it.Comment

Re: fans of underground rap?
It ain't his responsibility, but he should be willing to help another artist to get recognized. Most underground dudes would kill then mainstream cats, so they cockblock them for lack of a better word.
I also agree with the above poster that Young Money was a bad move in my opinion. I like his older stuff better. Hopefully, Thank Me Later will be a lot better.
As far as J. Cole, he's gonna be a force in the game. The Come Up and The Warm Up still gets major play in the ride. Signing with Roc Nation will only better him as an artist and challenge him more. You can get the sense that the flow won't change once the bright lights hit. He just spits it hard non-stop.Originally posted by J. ColeFool me one time that's shame on you. Re: fans of underground rap?
Here is someone I stumbled upon recently...
Childish Gambino
It's Donald Glover (Troy on Community and star of many DerrickComedy sketches), and his lyrics are incredibly clever.
I don't know what kind of music you guys listen to, and his stuff is a little different because he raps over Indie music, but someone might like it.
Links to his mix tapes...

Re: fans of underground rap?
I've had Substantial's Sacrifice album for a couple years but I hadn't listened to it until today and now I'm mad at myself for not listening to it early. This album is ridiculous.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Re: fans of underground rap?
This isn't really hip-hop in any real sense, but it's Sage Francis' new song with Yann Tiersen, the Amelie composer. And it's totally, ridiculously good... I've been listening to it on repeat since the download link dropped a few hours ago: http://www.strangefamousrecords.com/life/
Un****witable lyrics and content, Sage just kills it. The musical backdrop is amazing stuff as well, I love how it builds. One of the best-written songs I've heard in my life.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment
