just my personal opinion....cool kids and pac div get reallyyyy boring really fast. monotone flows. Tom Hardy just gets more and more corny (9th is coaching him on how to rap...ughhhhh.......check out King Mez instead, not sure if he has any major projects though

    Get Chaundon ASAP

perhaps most importantly get Little Brother's mixtapes (And Justus For All, Separate But Equal) and their album The Minstrel Show for sure.

my list of emcees is basically

    Royce 5'9
    Budden
    Phonte of Little Brother
    Elzhi
    Chaudon
    Eminem
    Skyzoo
    Quest
    Dirt Diggler of Pic Squad

    would also check

    Willie the kid
    Young Chris
    XV
    Torae
    Esso
    Joel Ortiz
    Crooked I
    Black Milk

Torae and Black Milk belong on your 1st list! Both are exceptional emcees, and Black Milk's production is even better than his refreshing rap style.

Black Milk might be my favorite producer. His drums hit like no other right now.

Heard all of jmood's list except DJ Deckstream & Phil Ade... I would say if you want a shorter list... the ones in bold are truly worth checking out.

Blu & Exile- Below the Heavens
Pete Philly & Perquisite- Mystery Repeats(Live edition if you can find it)

                Oddisee- Foot in the Door
                Phil Ade- Starting on JV
                Reks- Grey Hairs ***BEST ONE***
Saigon & Statik Slektah- All In A Day's Work
                Skillz- The Million Dollar Backpack
Statik Selektah- Stick 2 The Script
                Substantial- Sacrifice

"Sacrifice" by Substantial & "Below the Heavens" by Blu & Exile are definitely good too... just not MY taste.

I would pass on Mac Milller.

and DEFINITELY cop the Blu and Exile - Below the Heavens....thats a must.

Plus everything by the producer Nicolay.

                        Try these guys out:

DJ Shadow - Endtroducing is one of the best albums I own.
DJ Z-Trip - I only has his Shifting Gears album, but it feels very much like a mixtape with all the different rappers. Highlight of this album is definitely Breakfast Club featuring Murs.
Handsome Boy Modeling School - Prince Paul (De La Soul;s 3 Feet High & Rising) and Dan The Automator. My favorite track of this album is Magnetizing feature Del Tha Funkee Homosapien.
Deltron 3030 - A concept group with Del, Kid Koala and Dan the Automator where the concept is that they are in the future and fighting is based around rap battles. Has a definite sci-fi feel to it and its one of my favorite rap albums.

I put on a Nicolay playlist on Youtube last night as I was playing Madden and a lot of Zion I and Kev Brown came up...I was diggin' most of it. Had heard some Kev Brown before and thought he was decent, had never really given Zion I a chance. Definitely some dope stuff
