Potentially Great Movies With Terrible Endings

What are some movies that you thought were on the cusp of something great but the ending ruined it for you?

I caught Collateral on HBO the other night, and I had to turn it off before the ending because it pretty much sh*t the bed for everything that you watched previously.

Hate him or not Tom Cruise gave a great performance as the hitman. I wasn't thrilled with Jamie Foxx but he didn't ruin it. Just the crappy, typical Hollywood ending did.

I thought Training Day was awesome until the final act. That's the only "potentially great" movie with a lousy ending I can think of right now.

I can see how that would be corny. Funny too, cause I watched that on DVD yesterday.

In reality, one of those guys from that hood would have shot Hoyt and that would have been that.

But Training Day is one of my favorite movies of all time, so its a little hard for me to rag on the ending too much.

I loved Collateral but I didnt see any other way to end it.

        SPOILERS

They couldnt kill Foxx's character because he was too likable so that was the only ending I think wouldve went over well unless Im just not thinking.

            SPOILER

My main beef was that it went back to Jada Pinkette's character. That was very lame. Have Vince get found out/killed by Jamie Foxx's character, whatever. But it was just too un-original the way it was.

Maybe it was just me though. Also, I wasn't crazy about Foxx's character. Their should be at least a few big movies where the bad guy gets away.

I don't even remember the ending to that movie correctly I don't think.

Spoilers (although if you're in this thread, you really shouldn't be worried about spoilers)

The creator of the robots killed himself, framed one robot to show the potential dangers of all other robots?

Something like that I think. That movie wasn't that great to begin with IMO

The Wedding Crashers comes to mind. It wasn't that the ending was completely terrible, but it was a trite ending and the shift from the obvious humor to the subtle comedy just didn't make sense.

It wasn't great but I liked it until the ending.

No, I thought the "master" robot computer thing had one of the subordinate robots kill the creator because it put the human race in danger to be creating more robots. Something like that.

Re: Potentially Great Movies With Terrible Endings

Okay, so then here's my list:

                          - Signs
                          - The Matrix Revolutions
                          - The Village (I really didn't like any of it, though [EDIT: I like it a little more now, still not the ending])
                          - The Ring Two
                          - Saw II (I loved the ending, actually... I just don't like how it's going to continue with another sequel)
                          - War of the Worlds
                          - The Forgotten
                          - A.I.

Movies that I account for crappier last halves:

                          - The Shaft
                          - War of the Worlds (again)
                          - Godsend
                          - The Day After Tomorrow (it wasn't bad, though... just not as drastic and entertaining)
                          Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60

Easily A.I. I think that movie would've been a sci-fi classic if Spielberg had stuck to one ending!

Completely agree (it's actually on my list)! The movie stretched far too long, and I thought that it ended a half-hour before it actually did!
