Sirius or XM??
Basically the price to install and receivers are the same. I already have an Alpine MP3 player that can receive both signals. I have heard XM for a while and while it has its good points (O&A, MLB, ACC football and basketball), it also has some bad points (not enough hip hop stations. 66 raw and 67 city are the only ones really.)

Re: Sirius or XM??
I used to work at a car audio shop that had equipment for both services and I was able to try out both services. Ultimately, I chose Sirius. I have had Sirius since the summer of '03 and I can't live without it.
At the time, I chose Sirius over XM because of the commercial-free music, NBA and NHL broadcasts, internet streaming of the music channels, and I was able to get a dedicated unit for my existing stereo system. Since then, Sirius has added NFL, numerous college sporting events (all the games for March Madness), Eminem (Shade 45), and most recently Howard Stern. Sirius will also be adding NASCAR in '07 and they have plans to do video as well.
I now have three units (2 dedicated car systems and 1 PNP) and I would recommend Sirius to anyone. I really enjoy the programming they have to offer and I think that they have a great variety of music channels that caters to almost any taste.
If you are unfamiliar with the music selection with Sirius, you can sign up for a free streaming trial to their music channels on their website. The streaming quality isn't the greatest, but it'll give you a glimpse of what they have to offer if you are on the fence.XBL & PSN: zasbury25Comment

Re: Sirius or XM??
This month's Sound & Vision has a quick rundown of each of their features. You should swing by a Books a Million or something and read the article, see what fits your tastes.
Atlanta Braves - Auburn Tigers - Nashville Predators

One has SEC football and one has ACC football. That would largely be my basis for choosing one over the other.Last edited by GAMEC0CK2002; 03-30-2006, 11:15 AM.Comment

Re: Sirius or XM??
Does sirius have the nfl or is that xm? I always get that mixed up.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Sirius or XM??
Both seem to be pretty good, personally I am planning on getting Sirius because of the sports for example (NBA, NFL, NHL) vs. XM (MLB, Nascar...I can get the reds on my AM radio) as well as having more appealing music channells.
Now to just see how much both cost.Comment

Re: Sirius or XM??
i get stuck in deciding too, the reason i even consider xm is that its already in my alpine deck. i like sirius better, but i don't want to add other stuff in my car if it doesn't fit right. anyone know if i have an xm ready deck, that i can put sirius in it somehow? probably not, i'm guessingComment

Re: Sirius or XM??
XM's major benefit right now is that it has a well-established portable unit (the MyFi) plus several other portable units, including soon to be released (if not already) ones that you can put MP3's into.. Sirrus has yet to get into this technology -the S50 they have, while portable, is not a live radio.. rather you have to dowload music for later play-back.. i have both systems, & have to say that Sirrus has a little bit better musical choice, but for sports, imo, XM has the edge...
if you are planning to put either in your home, XM also gives you an almost constant signal, whereas Sirrus fades in & out on occasion (or at least with me, i have to fiddle around with the antenna several times to get clear reception)..
the MyFi units cost about $300, but includes everything you need for home & car.. the other units for XM are going out for around $50, but then you would need to buy the other kits along with that... as far as the cost of Sirrus units, I bought a Xact unit from Target, plus a device that can make it portable (however the thing looks like a huge phone)..Comment
