Beatles are my favorite band of all time perhaps, along with stevie ray, but i would classify them as pop and not rock.

Black Sabbath are the pioneers of Heavy Metal. I wouldn't call them Rock.

Maybe also The Ramones? Their the first band I can think of to really bring punk rock to the forefront.

                  Agreed.

Also, Led Zeppelin was a good band, but I wouldn't call them pioneers.

I don't know if agree with that!, But I do agree with Black Sabath, Also I don't think the Beatles are pop rock. Sure they had the look of a today boy band, but their music is where they were different. especially how they change their style every generation.

Huh? Listen to "The White Album" or "Abbey Road." There's nothing pop-rock about those records. They're both very challenging, complex listens in many spots, especially for the era.

Yes, the early Beatles had a lot of bubble gum. But from "Magical Mystery Tour" on, The Beatles were arguably the most daring rock band in the world. Hell, just listen to "I Am The Walrus" from "Magical Mystery Tour" -- that is not pop-rock. Pop-rock bands don't take those kinds of chances.

I was answering the quote about the Beatles being pop and not rock, so I assumed he was referring to their early work. I don't understand why people draw a line between pop and rock.

yeah I can agree with the early Beatles being a boyband sound, but that what got them their break, so I can see them using that so they could show their true talent. They came across like this nice boyband, but John was a juvenile delinquent! So I can see them doing that!

The beatles were pop/rock. Theres nothing wrong with being pop, theres always this negative connatation tagged with it. Michael Jackson is arguably one of the most talented artist of our time, and he is straight up pop, nothing wrong with that. The early beatles were pop, then they moved in all kinds of different directions, which is why i love them so much.

Exactly. Pop is short for Popular. It covers a WIDE range of styles.

I guess someone should pose the question of when "pop" became an actual musical genre (the 80's?)? Certainly not when The Beatles were together. They were the epitome of rock during their time.
