Pretty much. I get sick of hearing that in every song.

That describes about 90% of rap music out these days.

I guess Big L didn't have much music as he only had one posthumous album. That one album was nice though.

Actually Money Mike is pretty good at rapping believe it or not LOL. You should check out a song he did with Game making fun of the Young Gunz and you will understand that he can spit.

Yep, bunch of haters on OS just like everywhere else now it seems. Agreed with the person who says nobody likes a rapper if he can sell albums.

The Carter II is an extremely unique album, and should get way more props than it is getting on this thread. I would say hes definitely top 5 out right now.

For the people who say Kanye has no mic skills...what the f do you mean? He is mainstream right? So why would the public love him if he didn't have mic skills? He has his own, raw way of doing things and its hot. College Dropout was better than Late Reg I thought though.

The list is laughable (especially the undeniable classics) but some of the people on this thread are way worse.

And who else is mainstream? Lil Jon. 50 Cent. The Black Eyed Peas. Being mainstream or the most recognizable doesn't equal the amount of talent anybody has and this is true for all genres. Who knows why the "public" loves the music they do, but I'm sure it has a lot to do with how much marketing and money the label is willing to shell out to get radio time.

Thats true. I'm white, from the suburbs and I am 19. Honestly, I just like to listen to stuff like 50 cent because it makes me feel kinda tough. That may sound bad, but its the truth. 50 cent may not recite poetry, but he can make a catchy song.

exactly , race is irrelevent in this conversation. btw arent most backpackers white males from the burbs anyways ? u can flip that around and ask what do they know about what it takes to make a dope emcee? contrary to what some ppl think you dont have to be "conscious" to be dope .
even murs talks about his caucasion fans in "this is for "..

this underground vs mainstream argument is lame *yet im contributing to it . . both have great rappers and there are alot more crappy underground rappers than there are mainstream.

the fact of the matter is the best emcees ever havent been underground. most underground emcees just arent versatile enough and thats a key aspect to being an great overrall emcee/ the total package .
most of these guys are just punchlines , preachy and talk about how things used to better instead of trying to make it better .
its almost like they are stuck in 94 but they dont want to realize that the times change *masta ace and cl - "seasons" is a great song about this.

i wouldnt say the carter 2 is unique but it is damn good .
kanye doenst have much mic skills in my honest opinion but he does know how to make an entertaining album , and yes i 2 thought college dropout was light years ahead of late reg. i agree we have a lot of backpackers here who think mos def, murs, and common are the best ever but - hey thats just their opinion. im not going to knock it - to each his own.

People are making it seem like being a fan of mainstream music is the ultimate sin and will lead you to eternal damnation. I'm not a slave to mainstream music. I like a few underground artists, but I don't think mainstream is as bad as people say it is. 1-3 people who harp on the same crap in their music doesn't really mean that mainstream is in a bad stare right now.

uh, no. Kanye is not a lyricist and has no mic skills. That's like saying Dr. Dre had mic skills. They do okay to get by. I like Kanye and thought College Dropout was better than LR, however, me knowing he's not a good MC does not affect my enjoyment of his work. If an artist has mic skills, it comes out on every song, it's not there for Kanye and his two LPs.
