    United 93

I'm just creating another thread that's not the "United 93 trailer" thread, so I suppose this is just for movie impressions. But PLEASE refrain from making this political. From what I've heard, they stick with just the facts in the movie, so let's go on what it says.

Now, I haven't seen the movie yet, but I plan on seeing it tonight. My main question is: What kind of way should I go about seeing the movie? Should I go myself, with my best friend, family, girlfriend, or a group of people? I don't know exactly what kind of power and depression this movie brings for me to walk into it with, especially with which people.

For those that have seen it (or that have some insight), who should I bring, if anyone? I don't mind seeing movies by myself, so consider that an option please.

And for those that have seen it... how is it?

I want to go see it...but I have the same problem, or a similar one.

Just have no one else that wants to go.

Yeah...I'm going to try and convince my dad to go tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure I'll go by myself around like 11 or 12

Well I saw it last Wednesday and I'll say it's very emotional movie. The first 20 minutes are so are quite boring but that is what they intended IMO, to portray "just another day". I think it was a paradoxal movie in that it was depressing and yet uplifting all at once. After the movie ended no one got up, it was just stunned silence for a few moments as everyone gathered their thoughts. I had weak knees leaving the theater, it is like being punched in the stomach emotion wise.

As for being political I don't want to get into that but I will say it reminded me, as it should all Americans, just what we are up against. There are people who want to kill us at any costs and this movie really reminds us all of how it felt after 9/11. I think this movie is one of the most compelling and emotional movies I have ever seen in my 36 years on this planet. It's difficult to watch though. I'd recommend you bring a loved one if you can, someone to discuss it with. Not sure about a girlfriend or lady friend though as it may not be a good "date movie" in that it can leave you emotionally vulnerable.

I heard that the movie is well done but I think it's way too early to make September 11th into a movie. Sometimes history should be allowed to stand by itself, without Hollywoodization. Hope that post wasn't political.

ive heard conflicting reviews. alot of people dont want to say a movie of this calibur is bad but ive heard the acting is pretty bad.

i think id wait for dvd rental. less amount of money spent plus i cant watch these types of movies in the open public.

I don't think it's too early at all, if anything too late, most Americans seem to have forgotten 9/11. This movie (which is sanctioned by the victims relatives) puts on screen the horror that was 9/11. This movie puts it in your face. I know some people think it's too early and will deal with it in their own time but I think alot of people need this movie to really be reminded and to face and deal with 9/11.

If what you say is true why are so many Americans wanting us to pull out of all the Middle East and bring all of our troops home? Isolationism is all I hear today and that didn't do us any bit of good when we were "minding our own business" prior to 9/11. I also hear alot of people saying we're "inflaming" the terrorists by what we are doing. Well how well did it work prior to 9/11 when we weren't at war with them? They still attacked us didn't they? As far as I know prior to 9/11 we weren't seeking them out and waging a war on terror and yet we were still attacked. Yes it's true we are "inflaming" the terrorists, that is what wars do, they inflame the enemy. As for your opinion that most of American has not forgotten 9/11 then their actions and current opinions do not speak in line with that arguement.

That's poppycock...the acting is very well done. Although I can see why some would want to watch this at home rather than the theater, it is a very private and personal experience.

That is inviting this thread to get political. People that want the U.S. out of Iraq didn't forget about September 11th. In fact, people who use September 11th as justification for Iraq forgot about it, because Iraq had nothing to do with it. (and I supported the war) Sorry, probably just got this thread locked.

Yeah well I agree, let's get this thread back on topic. I've said my peace, I don't want this thread to get locked as it's a very worthwhile movie. We'll just agree to disagree. This movie is a very inspirational movie regardless of your political leanings. Let's remember that the people on United 93 who fought back against these religious zealots were both Republican and Democrat.

                            Re: United 93

I just got home from seeing it. Due to time constraints, I decided to see it on my own... and by my personal judgment, that's exactly how it should have been.

I can't really say exactly how much I like/dislike the movie, because I think that I already knew what I was going to get out of it, etc. It's weird... it's like I can't even answer the question to "How was the movie?". It really did not seem like a movie to me, in the sense that it certainly did feel like a real-life experience.

It left me in tears at the end, I must admit. No movies ever do that like this one did. When the credits began rolling, not one person left their seat. Stunned silence, it was.

If I were to critique one thing, it would be what the audience 'wants' with the outcome, even though they already know what's going to happen. What I mean by this is sort of similar to what Hitchcock did in Psycho... having the audience 'want' Norman Bates to get away with it. It's not that I wanted anybody to get away with anything... but with us focusing on the terrorists in what was almost seemingly a first-person thing from their perspective, we just couldn't grasp any longer, and needed them to turn loose with their objective so that we could get onto ours. If Greengrass stuck to the passengers a little more in terms of their motifs over the terrorists, I think we would have had a little more of the shock and guess value. Doesn't matter.

I'm telling you, my heart was racing the entire movie, especially at the end. It completely dropped dead when that second tower hit the WTC, though. I've never seen live footage of it until now, and that was just... oh my goodness.

Very powerful movie. I recommend anybody to watch it if they're willing to relive it (or live it for the first time like myself).
