    Official iPod Thread

I had to start this one only because there are so many threads about the ipod all over this forum. Tired of searching through each thread and not finding what I'm in need of. This will also help with those who have an ipod and want to find specific things about their ipod within the thread.

Another thing, if questions are asked, highlight them in red. If they are answered, put them in the same regular color. Dont' forget to put your ipod model/type/whatever the hell down. I hope this works cause at least I could pm someone on here that has the same type I have. Here goes.......

I think I need to get another iPod. I have a 3G iPod and it's old, and it doesn't hold charge well at all. If I were to get another iPod, what would be the best iPod for me to get, a rising college freshman who will probably walk from class to dorm to class? I use Windows as well, if that changes anything.

      Do you workout a lot?
Do you have a large collection of music that you like?

It depends on a few things. If you workout, I'd say get a 4gig Nano. If you don't, but have a huge collection of music that you like, get a 5g 30-60 gig.

Ive got the 6 gig version. The last of the colored ones they made before the switch to the Nano series. Ive got a huge library that doesnt at all fit on it, but at the same time I dont really need it all on it. And I can add/drop at anytime on my mac to whatever Im feeling like for that day or week. Im kinda interested in the Nano video series, but I really cant justify dropping the cash if my trusty 6 gig is still working flawlessy.

            1. What are the exact formats that are usable in the ipod? I have a video 30gb one and I'm trying to figure out what I can and cannot put on there. I want to start adding a few videos. I just downloaded Ninja Scroll and I want to be able to watch that on a road trip. I also have the first season of Sopranos that I want to convert but I don't know what to use and how to use it. 2. Also, how the heck do I get music onto this sucker? I downloaded all these podcasts and they just popped onto the ipod. They just popped on there from my itunes but I didn't have to do anything. I have cds that I want to put on there, basically classical music and baroque. 3. All I have to do is update the itunes with the ipod connected to the cpu? Using windows.

                1. The iPod can recognize songs with the extensions .wav, .mp3, .m4a, .m4p, .aac, and probably a few more I'm forgetting. I know it cannot recognize files with the .wma extension. I'm not sure about the videos, as I don't have a video iPod, but I would think anything that the program Quicktime can recognize would work with the iPod (Quicktime is made by Apple, that's why I assume such).

                2. Import songs into the iTunes library, and then connect the iPod (this assumes that you've already installed the iPod software, this is different from the iTunes software; if you haven't, refer to the iPod instruction manual and do so). The iPod should download all the songs in the library to its hard drive automatically. Podcasts will also be downloaded to your iPod if you have any.

                3. Not quite sure what you mean, but yes, the iPod updates automatically each time you connect it to the computer.

I prefer to go ipod settings and selecting the choice that lets you add songs manually. That way you only put songs on there that you want.

                        External Hard Drive.

There's also a Firefox extension that allows you to save over 2000MB of space on a GMail account.

Well I've got a 2gig Nano. I can put enough songs on there and I still won't listen to all of them.

The question about the video iPod. There's TONS of programs out there that can convert your video files so they can work with the ipod. Just do a search for iPod Video converter.

Winavi is the best that I've seen. I convert videos for my sisters Ipod and I've had no troubles with it.
