Re: Nj says no to pumping gas

People will always have an excuse on why they shouldn't do sh*t themselves.

This is a funny argument. I mean, we're talking about pumping gas. The phrase "pumping your own gas" even makes it sound harder than it really is!

Even the spoiled *** 10yr old rich boys know how to pump gas.

Re: Nj says no to pumping gas

Hey speaking of pumping gas, how do you guys get that metal bar thingy to latch down and automatically pump the gas for you? I'm always standing up there clamping down on the pump while filling up my car and never gotten that thing to work properly. I'd like to just set that up and go back into my car when it is cold in the wintertime.

You're not suppose to enter and exit your car while filling up your gas.

As for the question, I just push the handle down until it catches.

i don't even understand your argument

do you let a total stranger cook your food for you at a restaurant?

            you don't make any sense

i don't even understand how anyone can complain about a luxury like someone else pumping your gas

              Cooking vs. pumping gas?

Well... I guess I don't understand your argument.

that's because i'm not comparing cooking and pumping gas

the guy said he doesn't want a stranger pumping his gas, as if it would harm him or something

Re: Nj says no to pumping gas

Am I the only person who doesn't like the thought of another person touching my car? I'm not crazy about my car or anything, but still...

I once tried to pump my own gas in Oregon (I didn't know the law at the time) and the guy comes flying out of his little hut waving his arms screaming at me. So I got in my car and let him do his thing. When it became painfully obvious that washing my windshield wasn't part of the deal, I got out of the car to do it myself. As soon as I put one foot on the ground, the guy starts snapping at me to stay in the car. I pretty much told him over my dead body.

Yes it is a good thing. I know how to pump my own gas and so does everyone I know but if someone will do it for me, why not. The whole "a stranger pumping my gas" thing is lame, like SC3 already said, it's no different then going to a restaraunt, or someone ringing up your food at a grocery store. Same thing, you guys jsut aren't used to that.

Like someone else stated, you really shouldn't go back in your car. By doing so you don't remain grounded and that can cause problems (ie: a fire).

Some gas stations remove the autopump feature where you can just push the handle until it clicks. This is to stop people from getting back in their car and because I've seen the autopump not disengage. It happened to me and gas started squirting out. What a mess.

I don't go to a gas station expecting to be served, which is the complete opposite of a restaurant.

The reason I wouldn't do it is I see no need to tip someone for something I can do. Waste of money IMO. Not to mention it's faster for me to pump my own gas and get going. It might be cold in the winter, but it's 3-5 minutes outside. Not a big deal.

Getting food at a restaurant is obviously different. I go to a restaurant to be taken care of and I leave a nice tip all the time. Oddly enough, I do self checkout at a grocery store as well. Faster that way.

Of course this is a moot point for me as I don't know of any gas stations around me where gas is pumped for me.

I, and everyone else I know, don't tip. They get paid to this. BTW, I use the self-checkout also. So much easier and faster.
