    The Dark Knight.

I'm psyched. I trust Nolan; I still think Ledger has the potential to do a great job.

Wonder if the 3rd film will be called THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS "snickers"

I can handle Ledger but if Harvey Dent is in some way a part of this film and he's played by a pretty boy i'll sigh....and not in a good way.

I'm pretty sure Harvey is in the movie as he's the new DA.

                According to CBM:
August 18, 2006: According to various news sources: "Ryan Phillippe may be set to take over from Tommy Lee Jones after reportedly landing the role of Harvey Dent/Two-Face in the upcoming Batman Begins sequel. Reese Witherspoon's husband will join Heath Ledger, who has signed on to play The Joker, and new Batman Christian Bale in The Dark Knight. Crash star Phillippe beat Liev Shreiber and Josh Lucas to the role of the scheming district attorney, played by Jones in 1995 movie Batman Forever, according to internet reports. Academy Award winners Sir Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman have also joined the cast, while fellow Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman is in talks to play The Penguin in the new film. " Thanks to 'Dream of the Endless' for the heads up!
Very interesting. I haven't seen enough of Phillippe's work to think of this as a good or bad thing. Jett over on Batman-on-Film hasn't confirmed this yet, so I'm still treating it as a rumor.

I don't like the look of these actors personally but hopefully Nolan knows what he's doing.

Guy Pearce is still my favorite to play Dent.

I agree. I think he would definitely nail the look. As for Two-Face/Dent, I'd like to see Josh Lucas or Leiv get the role.

                            Author: Jett
Wednesday, August 23, 2006 - 9:54 AM CENTRAL TIME: Nolan has finally spoken publicly about the upcoming film, THE DARK KNIGHT. Via BETTERTHANFUDGE.COM, here’s a bit of what the director had to say:

Regarding the theme of the film: “I suppose in loose terms I can say it’s about things having to get worse before they get better.”
Can anything be inferred from the title of the film? “Ultimately yes. But I’ll leave that for people to infer The title has been chose very specifically. It’s quite important to the film.”
Will The Joker be different that past live-action interpretations? “Yes. I would certainly point to The Killing Joke but I also would point very much to the first two appearances of The Joker in the comic. If you look at where The Joker comes from there’s a very clear direction that fits what we’re doing very well.”
Thanks to all the BOF'ers who sent in the info...
The word going around is that there may be some new THE DARK KNIGHT news coming in September. The last time I heard such rumblings was just prior to the Ledger/TDK announcements...

Hm if he's making his Batman more akin to Frank Miller's then I think that might be TOO dark for mainstream audiences.

I like that he's going with a psychotic yet smart interpretation of the Joker.

                                Penn Declined and Joker Inspirations
                                Author: Jett
Thursday, August 24, 2006 - 5:43 AM CENTRAL TIME: “Our Best Source” is back with some interesting revelations:

“You might want to dig up one of my ‘scoops’ for you from a long time ago -- just after Goyer leaked that The Joker would be in the sequel.
If you recall, I let you know that they would be going back to The Joker's first ever appearance, in BATMAN #1 1940, as the plot-line for the sequel. They will also be mixing in some plot threads from The Joker's celebrated ‘comeback’ tale from the 1970s, ‘The Joker's Five-Way Revenge.’
You may also be interested to know that Sean Penn was their first choice for Joker, and passed.
Doing an article search on one-time candidate, Aussie Lachy Hulme, I also found an old article in an Australian newspaper comparing him to Sean Penn in terms of looks and acting style. Small world, eh?”
He's right on with that Joker inspiration info. It's somewhere in the archives and I'll dig through them later and find his blurb.
