    Joker casting rumor du jour....

I'm torn. On one hand, I definitely don't want to see him do an over-the-top characterization of the Joker a la Edward Nigma in the 3rd movie. But on the other hand, playing a more sullen and dark character like he did in One Hour Photo or Insomnia, I think he might do a really good job. And he does have knowledge of and respect for the comics and graphic novels, so who knows....this might be interesting.

Dash: [muttering] Which is another way of saying no one is.

I think Robin Williams could be solid, but I thought the role wasn't going to be a huge one?

Even better... a little bit of creepy Robin Williams can go a long way.

And even if the Joker is one of the main characters I have faith that Williams or whoever helms the Joker can make it work on a very dark, and twisted level.

The most intruiging part of Robin Williams being the Joker?

He is obviously a huge fan of the comic books, and knows what the Joker is all about, knows the history, everything...and it just seems like he would actually, genuinely care about the part.

Sherik, I'm torn like you, but for different reasons. Robin Williams would probably do wonderful as an older Joker, such as the Joker in The Dark Knight Returns. I don't really see him as a young, fresh Joker though, even if the movie is taking place 2-5 years after Batman Begins. Of course I could be wrong and I'd like to be proven wrong so long as he does a fantastic job. I have faith in Nolan.

On a side note, has anybody watched the extras on the 2-Disc SE of Batman Begins? I watched them Saturday and they were amazing, especially the building of Gotham City and the Tumbler. I didn't know Bale got up to 250lbs and had to lose weight for the role. Hell, he was a walking skeleton before Batman Begins and then he has to lose weight for the role, mind blowing.

So the word of who the Joker will be seems to be out. Rumors are it will be Heath Ledger. I realize that there will be many Brokeback jokes, but I personally think Ledger is a great actor, so if true, I think it is a great choice.

And here's a pretty funny altered pic I lifted from the CBR forums, I'm sure they'lll make him look cooler:

                Heath Ledger?!

I dunno if I like this casting. I guess we'll see how it goes but I would've prefered someone a little kooky like Crispin Glover.

Heath is a damn good actor, and could certainly, I think, be another fresh face to the series along with Bale.

I like Ledger well enough. But I cant see him as the joker but hey anyone would be better than Robin Williams.

Ledger isn't a bad choice IMO. I'd have rather seen someone like Johnny Depp but Ledger isn't bad.

Friday, July 21, 2006 - 8:26 AM PACIFIC TIME: I usually don't go out on a limb unless I have had something confirmed. Heath Ledger will be The Joker. From my BEST source:

"Nolan has been in secret talks with Ledger for some time....The fan favorites like Paul Bettany, Crispin Glover and your fave pick, Lachy Hulme, were just grist for the mill. Ledger will be playing The Joker. The offer was made last night, and it will be a done deal.

There you have it. Heath Ledger is The Joker.

Heath Ledger? The only movie of his that I've seen is The Patriot and I can't picture him as The Joker. I hope he surprises me.

I just can't see Ledger playing a psychotic and crazy as a fox villian like the Joker. Well, I'll give him a chance I suppose.

Nolan better know what he's doing with this casting because it's going to be awful hard to top Nicholson IMO.

All in all, Nicholson was playing Nicholson IMO, not the Joker.

Ledger will have a better script and hopefully a better background to go off of than Jack did. I've seen Ledger in Brokeback Mountain and some random scenes of the Patriot. I know he started out as a chick flick actor, but he seems to be getting serious, so I'm comfortable with this choice. Plus Nolan knows what he's doing. Hopefully the Joker kills Rachel Dawes, but thats my personal wish and it most likely will not come true. I personally want to hear his laugh, because IMO, Mark Hamil has the Joker's laugh on lock-down.

Anyway, production should start by the end of the year. I can't wait for this to hit theatres!
