Urgent from Sam -- Heath Ledger in 'The Dark Knight.'
      10:27 PM June 26, 2008

I just returned from a screening and I wanted to commit this to a public forum as quickly as possible. Heath Ledger gives a blockbuster performance in the new Batman movie. His work, as The Joker, will absolutely be nominated for an Oscar, and at this point in the year, Ledger is also a hands-down favorite to win it posthumously. Ledger offers perfect pitch, perfect tone, his Joker hits all the right notes. 'The Dark Knight' is among the better super-hero movies of all time, and Ledger is THE BEST villain in a super hero movie of all time. Really. It will only add to the conversation of all that Ledger could have accomplished had he lived. Amazing work.

Dash: [muttering] Which is another way of saying no one is.

Anyone else think this could be the best movie of the last 10 years? I hope to hell i'm not overhyping this to myself but I feel like this is going to be "the one". This will be my new "The Crow" movie, a comic book movie done to perfection with both a great hero and a fantastic villain. I'm just worried i'm overselling it to myself honestly.

Honestly, I have hyped myself up to the point that in my mind this is already the best movie I have ever seen.

The best part? Even if it falls short of my expectations, it will still probably be the best movie I have ever seen because my hype-meter and expectations are that high.

I just requested off that entire week (the 13th through 20th) so I'm planning on seeing it at least 3 or 4 times that weekend, and at least once in iMax.

I agree, I think this is the one. God help me if it isn't. I love Patrick Bateman as Batman and Heath Ledger as the Joker is gold. I don't see how it can fail.

                    Why stop there?

-Michael Caine is amazing as Alfred. He's got the perfect balance of power/influence and servitude, like Alfred did in the graphic novels.

-Aaron Eckhart is, in my opinion, going to nail Dent down. Whether or not his Two-Face is as amazing as I feel its going to be remains to be seen.

Really, if this cast can nail down four of the biggest characters in the Gotham universe, I don't know what else we can ask for. A good Selina Kyle is the only thing I can think of.

I wish Scarecrow would get more screen-time cause I really dig Murphy in the role. Hopefully he'll make an appearance in the third movie as well.

Wow, I can't believe I forgot all about Murphy as Scarecrow. Add that to the list of Gotham characters that this series nailed.

If only they had nailed Raz down, they'd be 6 of 6.

Heath Ledger as the Joker will go down as being the best villain to ever appear in any comic book movie ever. Period.
