No, you can do anything on your laptop that your remote can do sitting at home. So to watch tv on your laptop, you will connect and then turn the cable box on, the tv doesn't need to be on, and you will put it on whatever channel you want, watch a recording, order a ppv movie, etc. The only thing is that if someone is home and is watching the tv, you both will have control, you can change the channel and they can change the channel.

It depends if your work lets you download programs. All you need to do is download the SlingPlayer and then you should be fine.

if you do find that it is blocked, you can set the port to 443, i think, that is a https or ftp port which is open almost anywhere. that should get you around any restictions, but if they monitor your network, they could question you on your usage.

                Re: Anyone have a Slingbox?

I have a sling box and it works great. Only problem is sometimes the stream gets frozen, so you have to disconnect and reconnect again. The picture quality is suprisingly good. I got it for around $250 though when it first came out. Great to watch college football or pro football at work or school

                I give it a 9/10

                  Re: Anyone have a Slingbox?

Sorry for bumping this thread...But I have some question about understanding the slingbox.

I connect my cable going into my TV, into the slingbox?

Than what do I connect to the Router? Is it just an ethernet cord?

What I am looking to do is watch telivision on my laptop, while I am at college. I am kind of confused on things..and would love some clarification.
