Originally posted by edmusLOL, you're probably not a big fan of the original, because this was atrocious, like watching bad karaoke.Even Gilby stunk on this one. Bongo boy seems like a nice guy, but he has no clue how to be vocally subtle or rhythmic, and "Solsbury Hill" demands it. He really should stick to the straightahead rock & roll songs, and stay away from the rhythmic stuff like this & "Burning down the House". I think practically anybody else on the show could've done a much better job with this... well maybe not Zayra! I would've really liked to see Storm or Magni perform it. I think they're the only ones who could've excelled with it.
Totally agree with your lock. Patrice is done. I think Zayra is terrible, I don't even listen to her performances very much anymore. I give her 30 seconds to a minute before I fast forward past her, but at least she has charisma and a personality. Patrice is just invisible there and she knows it. But after Patrice is gone, I hope it is Zayra that is next because I really like the music the rest of the others are doing.

After hearing that wretched new SN song, I'm a bit disgusted with myself for having watched this show at all. If I want to hear simplistic music with juvenile lyrics, I'll just dust off my old KISS records (by far the cheesiest thing in my music collection).
After watching that performance, I think there can be no other choice for this band but Dilana. After all, Dilana's lyrical contribution was probably the closest to the lyrics of that song. I could barely even picture any of the other singers performing that dreck. Certainly not Ryan for one, and I'm not so sure anybody else would 'buy-in' to it like Dilana did.
Obviously I'm not the target audience for this band. And I know I'm in disagreement with 99% of the country (many of whom probably hit the mute button), but I really liked Z's "Razor Blade" song. As usual once the adrenaline got flowing, she went all ape**** with her pitch, but I still enjoyed it. She's fun, interesting, & intense with a lot of charisma and stage presence. I found myself liking her performances more with each passing week. For me she was far more compelling to watch than anybody else on the show.
Well, for those still watching, enjoy the rest of the season. I think I'll skip the Dilana love-fest.Comment

Nope, not really. I think she has a pretty face and I like her personality & energy, but she's too thin and sticklike for me. Trust me, if I was choosing their singer based strictly on appearance, Storm would be getting all of my votes!
I think I'm just more in tune (or out of tune I suppose) with her musical tastes than anything SN has to offer. To me, SN just sounds like bland rock with cheesy lyrics. I think if you're gonna go that route, you definitely need a better guitarist than Gilby. And after being in Metalllica, I have no idea why Jason is wasting his time on this project.Comment

Ah okay, I didn't know that. As I've said before I wasn't a big fan of Metallica's style of music, but I could occasionally listen to it and had respect for them as a band.Comment

Newsted leaves (2001-2003)
As plans were being made to go into the recording studio in 2001, Jason Newsted left the band, ostensibly due to "the physical damage I have done to myself over the years while playing the music that I love." However, subsequent interviews with Newsted and the remaining members revealed that Newsted's desire to release a CD and tour with his Echobrain side-project – and Hetfield's intense resistance to such an idea – was the primary cause of Newsted's departure, as Hetfield believed a release by an individual band member would somehow weaken the band. The 2004 documentary Some Kind of Monster provided more insight into the reasons for Newsted's departure. In the film he says he felt Metallica's desire to hire a therapist to help solve the problems between the band members was "****ing lame and weak".
This would be the first in a series of low-points the band would endure. In July, 2001, Hetfield entered rehab due to "alcoholism and other addictions". For nearly a year, Metallica ceased to function in any meaningful way. Ulrich and Hammett, for the first time, seriously considered the possibility that Metallica might be finished. Hetfield eventually returned to the band following his rehab hiatus. Slowly and cautiously Metallica continued as a 3-piece throughout the writing and recording of their next album. Longtime producer Bob Rock handled bass duties for the sessions.
Metallica held auditions for Newsted's permanent replacement in early 2003. Robert Trujillo formerly of Suicidal Tendencies, and Ozzy Osbourne's band, was chosen as the new bassist. Robert's resume also included Infectious Grooves as well as a stint with Black Label Society on their Boozed, Broozed, and Broken-Boned DVD. As Metallica moved on, Jason Newsted also found a new musical home joining Canadian thrash metal legends Voivod in 2002. In an interesting turn of events, Jason became Robert's replacement in Ozzy's band during the 2003 Ozzfest tour (which included Voivod as part of the touring bill).- LETS GO RED SOX!!!
