I heard today Keith Richards plays Jack's dad in this movie. Is that true?

He was supposed to play Sparrow's dad in Dead Man's Chest. Instead, he's making a cameo in the third one. So next year, we'll see Keith Richards as Sparrow's dad.

On a side note: Dead Man's Chest is now rotten on the tomatometer. It isn't going over very well with critics, but from what I've read of casual moviegoer reactions, it seems like a really fun movie regardless and seems to be critic-proof. I'm hoping the casual moviegoers are right this time around. I really liked the original (I kind of get Monkey Island nostalgia just from watching the first one so that helps a bit), so I hope that this new movie is a lot of fun.

Also, Depp said his dialect for the movie was supposedly an amalgam of Keith Richards and somebody else.....anyone know?

Critics are usually critics because they don't know how to do anything else! I don't waste my time with them anymore.

I am sort of surprised to see the movie not getting the greatest reviews. But regardless, it is a fun movie as someone said... it's got a cheekiness to it and it's hard not to enjoy. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and thus is enjoyable.

It does end with a cliffhanger. The plot really doesn't get solved from the second movie, so I foresee them solving the second movie's plot while creating another problem in the third installment. I wasn't really that let down by the cliffhanger ending, but it still doesn't make me happy. If Depp didn't play Jack Sparrow, the movie would not be as good as it is. He makes the movie.

Does anyone else find it difficult to sit through a 2.5 hour action movie? Other movies can be as long as they need to be, but action gets repetitive. It seems like after the first POTC 2.5 hours followed by this 2.5 hour movie and then the next 2.5 hour movie, I'm going to really hate pirates.

After Armageddon, I never wanted to see another random explosion again. After King Kong, I never wanted to see another dinosaur stampede again. POTC really was excellent as the length didn't bother me at all compared to these other movies.

I have to watch POTC2 due to reasons out of my control and I'm afraid halfway through, I'm going to realize I can't stand swashbuckling of any kind or anyone saying, "Arr."

Yes, I do remember reading that, but he also said that he was inspired by the old Errol Flynn movies.

I pretty sure the voice is modelled after Pepe le Pew and Keith Richards, though. Maybe I misread your question?

Well...it's good to know that reviewer thought the first one sucked too.

That means this one should be even better.
