Wait wait wait...it set the weekend record all-time? DAMN! That's crazy, I didn't think it was that hyped up. Like I said, I thought it was great and an overlooked part was the very entertaining 3-way sword fight.

Re: Pirates of the Carribean 2
Good movie. The villains weren't as cool as teh first movie, but they still did a good job with them. It does suck that you are watching basically half of a full movie(and a 2:30 half at that!), but when combined with the next one it will certainly be a very entertaining flick.Comment

Re: Pirates of the Carribean 2
Just finished watching it. It was pretty good but the first was better. Like some, I watched the first before going to see the 2nd.
I agree that the villians in the 1st were better. The whole sea creature/sailor thing was a bit overdone I thoughtBoston Red Sox 2004, 2007 World Series Champions

Very Good Movie. One huge complaint, only about 5 minutes of Keira Knightley

Does Kiera Knightley look as incredibly hot in this movie as she did in the first?Comment

Re: Pirates of the Carribean 2
I saw this movie yesterday afternoon, and I hardly liked it at all. I absolutely loved the first one, but I have no appeal to watch this one again. IMO it started out silly, got weird, got gross, got cool, got gross and silly again, then a cool ending. I will see Pirates 3, mainly to finish out the series and I do like the characters, but on the way home last night, my said said, "well that'll be one trilogy I don't see the end of." I'm sure she'll watch it on DVD though, but never this one again.
Spoilers
I knew from all the trailers for this one that it didn't look like a movie I'll enjoy. I thought the bad guys were just gross. The whole natives scene was just silly and I don't enjoy that. I did like Jack's deception to Will and really like the way Elizabeth got the best of Jack at the end. That was probably my favorite part. I liked the 3-man sword fight until Elizabeth started whining and chunking rocks and then the gross people started chasing her and the two Pirates. Whereas the movie started to lose me with the island scene at the beginning, it really made me want to leave when it go to the witch's hut. She was gross and I could barely understand what she was saying.
I will say that I can understand why some people liked it. I liked the plot of the movie, I thought that was really good. I liked the situation that Will and Elizabeth are in as well as the one Jack is in. At first I thought how they handled the Commandeer was terrible, but I liked how he got the best of them in the end. He was such a good character in the first one, I didn't like how he was so reduced. I'm glad he redeemed himself some. I just didn't like how the movie portrayed all that most of the time.
End spoilers
The sad thing is that I loved the first Pirates so much and it is a movie I could watch at anytime really, but I have a hard time even considering watching this one again. Oh well. I'd give it a C on a scale of A-F.

Re: Pirates of the Carribean 2
I saw the movie today and just thought I'd share my thoughts quickly.
While the movie wasn't as good as the original (and I doubt the third movie will be as good as the first one either), I really liked the second movie. I felt like Will Turner's character was an overall stronger character than in Curse of the Black Pearl and I liked Elizabeth's character much more than the first, however both Orlando and Keira could tweak their acting a bit. Johnny Depp was wonderful (again) as Captain Jack Sparrow and easily (not again) gave the best performance of the movie.
At first I found the whole crustacean/fish/human pirates to be a bit corny, but eventually I was swept away with the idea because in all reality thats what makes these movies so great the abudance of corniness in them. The island scenes were great scenes for Jack, which is the only reason I can see they were in the movie, but I enjoyed them. The only real problem I had with the film was Davey Jones and his crew. I felt Davey Jones himself was rather trite and boring and as such felt completely indifferent to his character. Compared to Captain Barbossa from the first movie, Davey Jones was completely underwhelming and his character was a bit flat.
The movie definitely ended on an amazing note though, what with the 3 man sword fight, the giant squid, and then of course the reemergence of my second favorite character of the first movie. I'm definitely looking forward to the third.
