As an original 24 fan I must say I'm disappointed. The show has always flirted with being too unrealistic but you tend to look the other way. This first show bordered on ludicrous for me at times.

The government making a deal with a bunch of terrorists and agree to hand over a military legend (Jack) for the hope that it leads to a terrorist? Give me a break. The US has long had a no negotiation policy with terrorists and this was just way too far.

The entire thought that killing a terrorist leader would stop a movement and its violence is completely stupid and ridiculous. Israel proved that taking out leaders can slow a movement temporarily but will never stop it. I guess if we took out Osama Bin Laden his followers would all just give up. There are always replacements. The sheer idea that a terrorist leader (guy Jack saves) will give up his evil ways and work to stop violence is more madness.

Fayed was actually within minutes himself of CTU based on how fast Buchanon got back to CTU after dropping Jack off. That seems like a major security failure to me, especially considering how tough traffic is in LA. Why would a high ranking terrorist ever put himself in extreme danger of a double cross or a field agent?

Nobody ever listens to Jack who still possesses Wolverine like healing abilities and is never wrong. Jack continues to break protocol along with Chloe as there is no respect for command.

A major terrorist group will trust a 16 year old kid to get them a major package to be used in their plans? Not buying it or the fact the kid could hide it in the drywall.

I never was a big fan of Wayne Palmer and tonight's show didn't change my mind.

Anyone else not care that Bill is married to the chick now? Keep the romance crap out of the show. Its sidetracked it in the past and may continue to do so.

For positives, the action scenes were cool and so was Jack's escape but they went way beyond the realm of reality with the first two hours and I couldn't let it go the entire time. I'll continue to watch but the entire premise is based out of pure unrealistic fiction.

Great start to the season! While there wasn't a big cliffhanger, it lays a good foundation for tomorrow night. The premise is the best one they have had. Jack dealing with the demons of torture is an awesome idea.

I like the direction they are heading in with the story line this year. The idea that anyone can be a terrorist is compelling TV. I also love the fact the former terrorist helping Jack is kinda like his badass muslim twin.

Re: 24 Season 6 (NO SPOILERS)

I have watched 24 from the absolute beginning of the series. I have seen every episode as it aired on TV from seasons 1 through 5. I've purchased the DVDs and have just waited for it to win some major emmys. And it finally did last year.....after the show had jumped the shark.

I had no inkling at all to watch this season because there really is no reason whatsoever for Jack to still be alive after what he did at the embassy in season 4. The Chinese had him in custody and were waiting for more than a year to get back at him and somehow he doesn't wind up dead but rather back in the US fighting terrorism?

I'm sure they gave a reason why China didn't kill him and gave him back but I really don't care anymore. After watching the president of the United States be the mastermind behind terrorist attacks on his own country I simply could not watch the show anymore. I guess I just can't look the other way any more on the improbable scenarios and sequences that occur on the show.

I hope you all enjoy this season but I won't be watching at all.

                    So long 24.

I loved every single minute of it, and i'm not surprised that I did. 24 is by far the best show to ever air on cable television(prison break a close 2nd.) Tomorrow can't come soon enough.

The only reason you people are saying you won't watch 24 anymore, is because you're all just jealous that you are not Jack Bauer.

I thought the first 2 eps were great, but I'm really looking forward to ep 4, just because of all the hype built up in this thread. However, I have to say, the first two eps this season are not anywhere close to being as unrealistic as any other season of 24. There are a lot of moments in this show that challenge your ability to suspend disbelief, so it's natural that some people will grow tired of it eventually.

I think it's crucial to remember that it's only a TV show, not geared towards reality.

Keifer said in the second season DVD, if people understand, it's just a TV show, the show has a chance to survive.

It was interesting listening to the producers after the second season DVD. They said we don't want to be like it is in the real world. They said, in reality, we are in a war, in season 2, the President decided not to go to war.
