Re: 24 Season 6 (NO SPOILERS)
I have watched 24 from the absolute beginning of the series. I have seen every episode as it aired on TV from seasons 1 through 5. I've purchased the DVDs and have just waited for it to win some major emmys. And it finally did last year.....after the show had jumped the shark.
I had no inkling at all to watch this season because there really is no reason whatsoever for Jack to still be alive after what he did at the embassy in season 4. The Chinese had him in custody and were waiting for more than a year to get back at him and somehow he doesn't wind up dead but rather back in the US fighting terrorism?
I'm sure they gave a reason why China didn't kill him and gave him back but I really don't care anymore. After watching the president of the United States be the mastermind behind terrorist attacks on his own country I simply could not watch the show anymore. I guess I just can't look the other way any more on the improbable scenarios and sequences that occur on the show.
I hope you all enjoy this season but I won't be watching at all.

Re: 24 Season 6 (NO SPOILERS)
Actually the entire staff stinks but after killing everyone off before, who else were they going to use?
As much as I disliked how stupid the previous paraniod president was, he was a much more interesting character. More fitting. Wayne and his sister seem like heavy to dead weight at the moment.Comment

Re: 24 Season 6 (NO SPOILERS)
I know its just a TV show and I've often willingly looked the other way when Jack puts his cape on. However, my major beef wasn't so much the trade of Bauer but that the idea of killing a terrorist leader would stop the violence. Some people may actually believe that (which is dangerous) but the entire beginning of this show was based on that foolish notion. I'll still keep watching though. :wink:Comment

Re: 24 Season 6 (NO SPOILERS)
I thought the first 2 eps were great, but I'm really looking forward to ep 4, just because of all the hype built up in this thread. However, I have to say, the first two eps this season are not anywhere close to being as unrealistic as any other season of 24. There are a lot of moments in this show that challenge your ability to suspend disbelief, so it's natural that some people will grow tired of it eventually.
If I had to pick the most unrealistic moment in the history of 24 (without too much thought) I would say it would have been the plot (year 4?) where terrorists stole a magic remote control that they used to control all the nuclear power plants in the country. Not only was that a huge stretch but that was like part three of a four part plan to destroy the US. They seemed to bite off more than they can chew and the leader was still doing this stuff from his office cubicle lol! That leader must have escaped two or three times when he was completely cornered as well. I was annoyed with that season.
Nothing compares to year one in my mind - it was realistic for the most part, Jack's wife and daughter were tied into the story well and everything was really tied together with little fluff or secondary story lines. The whole mole inside 24 was great and suspenseful.Comment

Re: 24 Season 6 (NO SPOILERS)
I was thinking about that this morning. I think you are definately right about other 24s having more unrealistic moments. However, they usually happen about midseason after a viewer has been completely hooked and immersed in the show. This kind of smacked me in the face in the first 30 minutes which was probably why I was more annoyed.

I saw Keifer on Letterman or Leno a few weeks ago and he brought that up. His comment was "We've learned a lot over the years. One being to never use cougars".Comment

Very true.

Maybe they should go into why America is so vulnerable right now to suicide bombers though. I don't see how they would resolve this situation in a believable manner. Maybe we'll see a different, darker version of America by the end of the day and there will be no real resolution (which would be really interesting and paint a worst-case scenario akin to the Siege the movie starring Denzel Washington and Bruce Willis).Comment

That was this past Friday on Conan (he probably did more than one, but that's where I saw it). Loved the first half, and can't wait for the second half tonight."In a world gone mad, only a lunatic is truly insane" - Homer SimpsonComment
