My best guess:

Whatever happened when he turned the key...sent him back in time, with the future's memories...so he could see the future. Which would lead one to believe he somehow goes into the future and that's how he knows what happens.

Still doesnt really explain how he can see the future "future". Lightening on the pole, drowning lady, Locke's speech...this all happened after the key turn.

I meant he could see the future in his 'memory' because he had been there.

So somehow, he must go to the Island's future, and then get transported back like the hatch got him stuck in some ****ed up time thing...and bam.

this is exactly what I said during the first half of the season, Desmond actually has been through this before, not that he is seeing the future

WOW! I really like this weeks episode. If Jack leaves like some people have rumored, I think that Desmond could do a good job in a lead role if given the opportunity.
