If being bitten by a spider, suffering paralysis and lying around among your friends for a few hours unable to move while they treat you as dead before burying you alive isn't the worst way to die, it's definitely up there.

Another great episode tonight. I had my doubts when I heard that Nikki and Paulo were the featured backstory, but this episode didn't disappoint. I love how all the little unexplained throwaways from the first two seasons are being woven back into the story, like Paulo emerging from the bathroom in the Pearl station.

Dash: [muttering] Which is another way of saying no one is.

Though people didn't like the characters, I definitely feel bad for them.

I feel terrible knowing that they died being buried alive. That's a terrible way to go.

I liked that we were given a quick synopsis of what Paulo and Nikki were doing during their time on the Island.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

But Nikki's interactions with John Locke and Boone happened in the Pilot Episode. I remember those moments clearly.

The only thing I can't remember is if they show Nikki being the one spoken to. I'm going to guess no since I find it highly unlikely that no one saw her in the Pilot.

I hate spiders. I would run around in circles, screaming like a little girl If I saw all those spiders coming towards me.

I get shivers, just thinking about it.

I may be crazy, but I somewhat remember Boone asking Nikki for a pen(did he say pen?) in the pilot. It was three years ago, so I could be wrong.

I remember her from previous episodes, but I guess I should have been more clear. Its just easier for them to just bring up extra characters that we have seen a few times or maybe not even at all and introduce them like they have been on the island.

That's what I thought too. Like I said, those interactions did happen in the Pilot episode.

But, maybe we are just filling in images because of what we were given tonight. I'm trying to watch the Pilot right now, but the video won't start online.

I realize that. But, it's not like Nikki's past was introduced as a fill-in or made up event that no one saw.

Nikki IS the character that Boone and John Locke were speaking to when asking for a pen and warning her to stay away from the engine.

There's a difference, though, the same technique you mention can be used.

I have the season 1 DVD's so I'll check tomorrow to see if Nikki was in the pilot episode. Too late tonight.

My guess is no as the actress who plays her (Kiele Sanchez) isn't credited with appearing in that episode or any episode up until this season.

this show is twisted! What a great way to kill them off. My friend and I think they were edited in to most of the scenes I.E. the whole Jack speech which is clear they were cause they weren't shown in the same frame as him speaking... as for the other scenes I need to break out the season 1 DVD but I'm pretty sure that they edited those parts in again as well as candid photos from fans for episode 14 showed them having spare parts lying on the beach to re-enact the first episode.

Loved tonight, and can't wait for next week. LOST is back, and right now I think it's better than ever!

Yea, that was my next thought. She's not on IMDB for that episode.

So, just gonna have to give the editors, writers, and producers credit for finding a way to fit her into the storyline and making it something viewers can relate to. Gave her a strong connection to the Losties.

And now thinking about Sawyer, I can see how he wouldn't know them. Sawyer hasn't exactly been on the beach with the Losties much. He's done a lot of traveling and really doesn't talk to anybody unless spoken to.

                            - I knew the episode was going to be great once I heard Rump Shaker

                            - The writers managed to make a Paulo/Nikki flashback interesting. At the time, it seemed kind of random to show Paulo coming out of the crapper. It makes sense now.

                            - I wonder how much of the flashback Island footage was re-shot versus how much of it was just editing. I popped in the Pilot and Nikki was nowhere to be found when the guy got sucked into the engine.

                            - Nice inside joke by the writers/producers when Shannon told Boone to basically stop flirting with random guys when they were at the airport. I cracked up when she said that. I really miss Maggie Grace. Too bad her character had to die. It's just one more reason to hate Ana Lucia.

                            - What a terrible way to die. Nikki said "paralyzed" and Hurley thought she said Paulo lies.

                            - Next weeks "fight" between Kate and Juliet looks good. It's a Kate flashback episode. Hopefully Jin finds out Charlie kinapped Sun and kicks his ***.

You would have to think IF Charlie ever dies, Jin would somehow be involed in his death.

Also, at the beginning when Nikki says that she doesn't want her character to come back, I couldn't help but laugh because I knew that's what's going to the real life actress. So we'll see what happens.

To add on, most of the flashback scenes were either re-shoots or edits. You can tell, because most of the time, you see the back of the main characters, but you clearly see either Nikki or Paulo. Also, the characters you see as a group were Boone, Shannon, Ari, Nikki, Paulo. Characters who have died and were able to shot their scenes together.
