So I guess Penny did send out someone to check out the "electromagnetic anomaly" to find Desmond.

This lends more evidence to think that in one of Demond's "time travels" after the hatch implosion he went back to before he left her telling her to keep an eye open for something electromagnetic going on if he were to ever be lost.

Edit: Keep in mind the name of the episode is "Catch-22" which makes a whole lotta sense right now.

I'm guessing it's someone sent out to look for Desmond by Penny... LOST is doing amazing things right now... It's like a whole new team is writing this show after the debacle that was Season 2.
