Humor and lightheartedness? Lost is a comedy now? We watch Lost because of the mysteries and the suspense, the act of peeling off layers of the mystery of the island and figuring out what's happening. Last night's episode did none of that. It was a feelgood, do-nothing episode in which they found a car and drove it around, and Kate and Sawyer made some googley eyes at each other. But in terms of unraveling the mystery of the island, or even adding to it, this episode did basically nothing.

If I wanted to watch a typical drama with some comedy and love stories cobbled together, I'll go watch one of the many shows on TV that feature stories like that. But it's not the reason I watch Lost and I'm starting to worry that the producers are caving to "fan" criticism and including some lame, throwaway episodes like the past two weeks in an effort to draw people back into the show.

It's kind of like what happened with Alias during the end of its run. JJ Abrams started writing all these throwaway episodes that had nothing to do with the overall plot of the story he had been building for four years because he wanted to draw new fans to the show. But all the real fans hated him for doing it. Don't do that with Lost....please....

I didn't say I prefered last night's episode because of it's lightheartedness, just that if I have to compare last week's "no revelation, no entertainment" nonsense to this week's "humorous without revelations" episode, I'd choose the latter. But the previous 2 seasons had episodes like the last 2 around this time, so I'm staying patient and waiting because I still think this season is going to be mindblowing.

Also, I don't think they are giving in to criticism by making these episodes. If they were giving in, they would be doing the opposite and we'd probably know what the smoke monster is.

obviously it was a filler episode. but a really really good one. not much action, didnt move the plot too much, but it was an entertaining, very funny, and uplifting episode. thumbs up for me.

I guess that would be a revelation of some sorts. It surprised me to hear it from her mouth, too.

In fact, afterwards I said out loud to myself, "I love this show." Then the little robot did it's grass dance and some kid said, "Bad Robot!"

Yes, I think THIS episode setup something big in the future! I can feel the anticipation building... "What's going to happen next?!?"

Very ehhhhhhh episode. I might not be as harsh on it if hadn't followed such a crappy episode from the week before. If you want to have an "uplifting" episode, that's fine, just don't do it right after the previous week's ep was a stinker.

Everyone I was watching it with knew Kate was going to talk to Rousseau as soon as she said "I'm going to find help" early on in the ep so the ending wasn't a surprise at all.

The whole episode just seemed completely irrelevant outside Rousseau. Nothing new was revealed and really no new questions were raised besides "Why the hell is Hurley obsessed with starting a van?" which turned out to be nothing at all. Two hyped up episodes in a row that didn't offer much.

The revelation isn't that Kate was looking for Danielle. It was that Kate knew that Alex was Danielle's daughter.

Until Kate said that, I didn't think any of the Losties were aware of Alex's history or who she was. Yea, we as fans knew that. It was obvious. But, the writers gave Kate a good head and apparentely she's smarter than I thought.

And I agree that this episode didn't reveal much, but I'm thinking we are getting spoiled as fans. This episode was alot like Season One - getting ot know the Losties. Season Three has been all about the Others and the writers were losing focus on the main characters. It was great to finally get some closure on Hurley's character and his background. Until last night, I didn't know what really drove him to go to Australia. I also didn't know why he is the person that he is in Lost. His flashback explained him a bit to the audience.

Isn't that what Lost was about to begin with when it started? The characters and their backgrounds. Everything else is to give it plot (and I'm not saying that plot isn't important. It's obviously the most important thing. But, plot can only be important if we care about the characters driving the plot).

Perhaps now, Hurley getting more involved with the Island (which I'm assuming he will because he's finally talking and figuring out things on his own ie: Desmond seeing the future) will make sense now that we feel more connected to his character. Prior to this episode, people still felt Hurley was a large waste of space.

I guess people probably still feel that way, but when he grows as a character and drives the plot, it'll be because of this episode that it'll be acceptable to the audience.

btw, I thought the episode ran perfectly fine with out Jack. Sawyer could easily be the lead of the show IMO.

Absolutely! Jack is so boring. Every 'Jack' episode is the exact same - Jack has a saviour complex. We get it.
Meanwhile, Sawyer is the funniest thing on TV. What were some of the nicknames we heard last night?

- Jumbotron, Munchkin, Jimminy Cricket,... Too funny!

And I really do think the writers all felt that us viewers didn't know that Alex was the daughter to French lady. They ended the show with that real dramatic scene followed by dramatic music like it was a realy 'bomb' they just dropped.

If it wasn't for Sawyer that episode would have been another complete bust.

P.S. How big do you think Hurley's head is? I'm guessing the size of a beach ball. I'm surprised his noggin doesn't have objects orbiting it.

- Sawyer was great. The episode wasn't.

- I can't believe Hurley use to be a skinny kid. Now we know why he can't stop eating after his Dad gave him that candy bar. We also found out why Hurley likes to say "dude" a lot. That had to come from Cheech..........

I'm sure Hurley will be a lot more hopeful now.

- I believe this was the first episode that didn't have an appearance from Jack.

- Nikki and Paulo must die. The sooner the better.

- I only watched the CTV preview so I'm not sure if it's different than the ABC one. I saw Kate, Sayid, and Locke confront the eye patch guy.

- Next week is a Sayid flashback.

I like Jack. I thought all of his flashbacks (especially the one's with Julie Bowen) have been excellent except for last weeks.

I'm usually one of the people defending Lost but that was by far the worst episode of Lost I've ever seen. Completely and utterly pointless until the last 5 minutes. I dont give a **** Hurley or his faith. Plus fatboy is easily the worst actor on the show. He's ok is all he has to do is spit out one or two funny lines an episode but please stop giving him entire episodes.

Cheech was terrible too.

I think you and I are the only people that follow Lost that don't like Hurely. I can't stand him. I don't know if it's because he looks like a giant blob of cookie dough with hair who sweats to much. Or if it's becuase he says "Dude" every 3 seconds. But I find him very irritating.
But he's good for a laugh whenever Sawyer gives him a new nickname like Stay Puffed or Jumbotron.

Haven't we seen the Chicken Cluck Shack hit by that meteorite before?

I thought it was a very lackluster show, nothing really happened. They found beer, yippee!
