Power outages
We just went 25 hours without power. It wouldn't have been too bad but it was too hott in the house for the kids. I can't even estimate how much food we lost. Could have been worse though.

close to 48 hrs in the "great blackout of '03" It was hot as hell, my refrigerated meat almost went bad (had to take some to my aunt who got power before we did) and we were sweating like pigs!Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Power outages
Hurricane Erin in 1995 knocked the power out at my house for 5 days in August. It was crazy hot. We pretty much just stayed in the pool for those days. I was in 10th grade at the time so I didn't have to worry about it, but I remember my parents being worried about all the cold food in the house going bad.
My parents, who still live in Pensacola, had it much worse a couple years ago with Hurricane Ivan. I think they were without power for a little over a week.Last edited by aukevin; 07-20-2006, 12:33 PM.

Re: Power outages
NYC blackout of '04 turned out to be fun. I had the biggest BBQ ever.
Right now in Queens there's some power outages, including parts of LaGuardia Airport.xbl gamertag: jiggidyjames72Comment

Re: Power outages
January 1998. There was an icestorm in the Southern part of Quebec. Our house didn't have power for about 10 days. Some smaller towns went without power for 5 weeks. That's in the winter too. The temperature were between -5 and -20 celsius. We were lucky enough to have family that still had power North of Montreal so we stayed there for about a week after spending the first few days in our house.Comment

Re: Power outages
In Burlington, VT we lost power on and off for hours at a time during that storm. Our house was on the same grid as the power company, so if it went out we knew it'd be back ASAP. I know parts of Maine went 3-4 weeks without power.Originally posted by spectralfanJanuary 1998. There was an icestorm in the Southern part of Quebec. Our house didn't have power for about 10 days. Re: Power outages
Yep, here in Fort Walton, which is about 40 miles from Pensacola, we were without power for about 5 days after Hurricane Ivan. Having a generator helped to keep the food from going bad but we couldn't run the air conditioning.Originally posted by aukevinMy parents, who still live in Pensacola, had it much worse a couple years ago with Hurricane Ivan. Re: Power outages
Man, that storm we had a few days ago was crazy, no wonder so many people around here were without power. I got lucky, but this area got wrecked by that storm.Originally posted by EaglesFanWe just went 25 hours without power. It wouldn't have been too bad but it was too hott in the house for the kids. Re: Power outages
Yup, I think it's been almost three days now. Astoria, Long Island City, Woodside and Sunnyside all without power. Con Ed hasn't said anything about when power is going to be restored and everyone is getting more PO'd by the minute. Con Ed is a joke.Originally posted by ehhMy boy who lives in Astoria hasn't had it for a long *** time now, he's spent the last few days @ his relatives crib on Staten Island.xbl gamertag: jiggidyjames72Comment

Re: Power outages
Back in the winter of 1993. The Blizzard of 1993 aka The Storm of the Century, it affected many, but it was huge here in the south because we rarely get snow. We were without power for almost a week. Its the most snow I've ever seen on the ground. Luckily we had a nice wood heater, with plenty of wood. Kept us nice, and warm, and allowed us to cook. And ofcourse having a 4x4 was fun for awhile, til the cops pulled me and my dad over..twice.
Here is a link for those who might not remember it.
