I think Chappelle's work while doing sketch comedy is slightly above average. Some really big hits, but some really big misses as well. Personally I find his straight stand up routine to be much much better than most of the sketch work.

The stand up seems more nuanced, there subtlety, irony, a more cerebral vibe. The sketchs,IMO, don't take advantage of all of Dave's comedic gifts.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

I agree. Killin' Them Softly was one of the funniest stand up acts I've ever seen.

Watched the unaired/deleted scenes today. Charile Murphy in Daddy Day Care 2. "Even higher than this?" "Yea!" "Ok you asked for it!.....HAHAHAHA" "I'M INJURED CHARLIE MURPHY!!" and "I missed" "What you mean you missed?.....HELL NO! Who da **** gave ya'll peanuts!?" That was great.

Hip Hop News part 2 was pretty good too,Nas gets to rule the world and frees everyone in Attica and sends them to Africa.

Anyone notice that on the racial pixies skit, the black pixie who was playing the music for chappelle wasnt on the dvd version. All his lines, and the pixie himself were gone.

I have yet to see any of the Chapelle Show except for Lost Episodes 1 and 3. I thought they were hilarious. I guess I'm gonna have to go buy Season 1 and 2 soon based on how funny everyone says they were compared to the Lost Eps.

That is my favorite skit. I still can't figure out who that guy is.

"What a minute. Maybe its catfish."

                          Then Chappelle's character says "Catfish....Catfish."

                          "Meow, meow. Meow, meow."

That and the second white pixie.

"He must have drank a 40 ounce. Hahaha. I'm a pixie."

I like most of dave's stuff. The dvd only had me laughing hard a few times.

The tupac song in the dance club was pretty funny. I need to find it online somewhere.

                                Up from the 36 chambers.

                                BUMP.

A couple of co-workers and I were talking about "essential" TV viewing. These kids are 23-27ish. I brought up The Chapelle Show and their eyes glazed over. This depressed me so I decided to bust out the DVDs (a time-warp itself) and watched a couple of Season 1 episodes last night.

First of all, holy **** I forgot how dark everything looked in the early 00s not to mention the left-over remnants of the big-baggie style of the 90s. You see it in shows like The Wire and The Sopranos as well. Some of it was cringe-worthy for sure, but it certainly made those 16 years feel like an even bigger distance.

Season 2 was rewatched the most, by far, so I had forgotten a lot of those season 1 sketches. For some it was like watching brand new again. It's hard to imagine a show like this in the current climate. Perhaps it's needed who knows. Some of it certainly feels dated (forgot how misogynist Dave was lol), but man I was dying laughing all over again.
