Re: Friday Night Lights show
Well Smith head a heavy dose of promotions and was canned after three weeks.CBS has the best shows and generates the most advertising dollars and was in a position to give it a chance, but they didn't.
NBC has finished third the past couple of years and have the least profit of the big four networks, so in reality they are in no position to give a struggling show a chance if it doesn't perform. They already panicked and moved Studio from Thursday's to Monday's before the fall season started.
Tuesday's at 10 might be a good choice since ABC is the only network airing original programming at this time.
Also, NBC didnt panic when they moved Studio 60. NBC announced it schedule first at the upfronts (a day before CBS and 2 before ABC) so they had no idea that they were going to put Studio 60 up against Grey's and CSI. That would have been complete suicide to launch a new show against the two biggest shows on TV. That wasnt a panic move....it was a common sense move.Comment

Re: Friday Night Lights show
If their going to cancel a show, don't cancel it with a few episodes left. FOX has a very bad habit of stringing us along the entire season only to wait till the final episodes of the season to cancel a show. That pisses me off.
FOX has cancelled shows in the last few years that my wife and I enjoyed, and we're very reluctant to watch shows on FOX for the fear that they will also be cancelled. Those shows were, Tru Calling, Reunion, Firefly, The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr, and Point Pleasant.
It just irks me that we never got to see the ending to Point Pleasant or Reunion.
Their treatment of Point Pleasant I think was their worst mistake, it was supposed to begin its final run but then got pre-empted after an American Idol screw up and never came back.
The first episode was good, sort of a cross between the movie and Varsity Blues IMO. It has potential but I really believe it would be better served on CW or even a cable network like F/X or the forthcoming F/X2.Comment

Re: Friday Night Lights show
You are right about Smith but CBS is and always has been more ratings driven. NBC has a history of sticking with struggling shows with great press and Studio 60 is one of them.

The funniest thing is they have FNL up against House, a show on Fox which NBC produces. They made the losing bet between House and that other medical show w/ the NIH. I would love to see FNL move to maybe Sunday at 7 as a lead in to the NFL, anyone wanna bet its ratings would go through the roof?Comment

Re: Friday Night Lights show
Supposedly Fox was supposed to release Point Pleasant on DVD with the missing episodes, no idea if that happened. I agree with you whole heartedly with Fox's antics, they are petty and childish and make little to no sense. I find it ironic that one of Fox's most successful shows, Married With Children was originally cancelled by ABC, yet they won't give shows a chance to develop a following. That and their constant changes in time slots makes me wonder how Fox survived.........oh wait it was by taking a chance with The Simpsons and Beverly Hills 90210. I even bet FNL could do better on Fox than NBC.

Not really, IIRC they had a season finale with a cliff hanger then never brought the show back.

Only shows that I watch on FOX now is Prison Break & Till Death. PB is stable for the moment, but I can see TD getting axed. I'm just really afraid to watch anything on FOX these days in fear they will get canned.Comment

That is a shame, that show is good IMO. Sure, sometimes its insulting to my intelligence but it is usually interesting. Wow, this thread has been some hijacked.Comment

Re: Friday Night Lights show
So far, I'm hooked on Friday Night Lights.
As a coach and teacher, it really hits home. I even got my mom hooked, and she's not a sports fan. It's not geared as a "sports show"...it's a drama that centers around a team.XBox Gamertag: djbeth77
