Re: EA getting REAL greedy...
Here's another news item - Sports gaming is currently in the toilet, and there isn't enough reason for a hardcore sports gamer to buy a next-gen console.
Hopefully this turns around soon . . .Been gaming since the Atari 2600, and hells no I won't stop!!!Comment

They make a crappy product, you don't buy it. That's the way the market works. Once their sales drop past the point this ancilliary source can cover, then they'll change their plan.
EA was never in this to help gamers, or to fulfill sports gamers' lives. They want as much money as they can, and always have. gaming's mainstream penetration just opens up new revenue streams.5WG | Facebook | Twitter | fiftytwoplays

Re: EA getting REAL greedy...
Id love accurate banners and signs in games. but thats about it.
like baseball games, MVP has patches out for accurate signs and stuff. EA should focus on that regard.
I could go even as far to say having commentators say "this game is brought to you by" once during the beginning, ONCE during halftime, and once post game.
The toyota moving you forward PERMAMENT replay ads in nba2k7 are a bit much imo. but it provides replay of gameplay and alittle ads, so its not all bad.
At the SBC center in San Antonio, there are colored ads all around the stadium between the lower deck and upper deck. THey could get sponsors in game to have those actual signs.. but then maybe they would have to create a new camera angle or style replays to SHOW more of those ads, or show them all equally throughout the game. thus limiting camera angles and replay.
Its a tough medium really. you could even have accurate locations on the jumbotrons, and for the 5-6 seconds that it shows the jumbotron during pregame, those are the ads and real life signs youd see.. small stuff like that.Comment

Then don't buy it.

$$$ drives corporations. Advertising is just another revenue flow. However, the KING of revenue flor for these game makers, at this time, is the $50 or $60 you pop down when you buy the game new.
Don't like what's going on in a game? Rent it or don't buy it at all. Or play your friend's copy to see if it's REALLY worth it. Or read this site.
These days, there really isn't a "lock" sports game out there, aside from Winning 11, so I think that we all need to approach things more carefully then we used to.
Plus, with products such as Action Replay, we can experience roster updates and settings tweaks without needing to buy "next year's" version. Hopefully, the proliferation of products like Action Replay and VG file sharing will lead to a more demanding consumer base. Then again, I'm not holding my breath!!Been gaming since the Atari 2600, and hells no I won't stop!!!Comment

Re: EA getting REAL greedy...
First thing I thought when I read the initial argument about this..."WHO CARES". People obviously like to bitch about things no matter how meaningless they are.
Ea could serve me up a "Mayor McCheese's Mcdonald's **** sandwich NCAA Football 07 presented by Burger King with limited commercial interruption thanks to Mountain Dew" and I wouldn't care as long as it played well.Favorite Teams:

Re: EA getting REAL greedy...
Isn't this what every company is trying to do? I really don't see the big deal. I for one don't really care about this at all. It is another stream of revenue for them so it doesn't really suprise me that they are pursuing it.Comment

Re: EA getting REAL greedy...
Are these people also complaining about the gratuitous ads in every sports stadium, product placement in motion pictures, and billboards on the side of the road? Ads are everywhere.
I have no problem with real ads in video games as long as they are appropiate to the game. Sam Fisher shooting a real Coke machine. Driving past real billboards in a racing game. Perfectly fine with me. Playing Battlefield 1942 with Microsoft logos popping up everywhere or Sony logos on space ships in Galactic Civilizations would really annoy me.Comment

I wouldn't mind Sony logos... that would mean the ships were really expensive and using the wrong technology
BTW, Galatic Civlization 2 is such a kickass game.NCAA Vets League: Arkansas Razorbacks (9-2, 6-1)

Um, dev costs have risen -- PS3 devkits, for example, cost EA 30K a pop, as opposed to PS2 devkits, which were 5K each.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that.
