Re: EA getting REAL greedy...
I personally do not care for EA's tactics. They're a business, of course they're out to make money. The problem I have is that I'm out to buy a sports video game, not have part of my game be commercials. That's the main argument, if you will. I know there are A LOT of folks that hate commercials, and video games are not the place to be throwing advertisments at buyers. Just watch and see, this will not be a successful adventure for EA.Comment

Re: EA getting REAL greedy...
First thing I thought when I read the initial argument about this..."WHO CARES". People obviously like to bitch about things no matter how meaningless they are.
Ea could serve me up a "Mayor McCheese's Mcdonald's **** sandwich NCAA Football 07 presented by Burger King with limited commercial interruption thanks to Mountain Dew" and I wouldn't care as long as it played well.hoping that you respect mine, which I doubt.

Re: EA getting REAL greedy...
I still don't know why you only single out EA, if you have tried the NBA 2K demo you will see the Toyota Moving Forward replay thing. After the replay it is a black screen saying " Toyota moving you forward" that you can't press a button to get past. I like this stuff but you only singling out EA is not right because 2K and every other company does it too.Comment

Re: EA getting REAL greedy...
Isnt' that one of the big draws from mods for the stadiums and overlays for the PC versions of these games. Getting the real advertisements and such in to the games?Comment

Re: EA getting REAL greedy...
I think the point is being missed a little here.
From reading the posts, it doesn't seem like anyone is offended by "video" advertising that represents real life advertising.
But, what I gathered from the reports, and have started to see, is advertising for the sake of advertising.
For example, NHL 07 has a "Dodge" shootout. At the conclusion of the shootout, Gary Thorne says, "Dodge, makers of the all new"...something, I've never caught it. That is intrusive advertising. I have difficulty believe that Dodge has sponsored every single shootout that will take place in the 06-07 NHL season.
Another example is the product placement in Fight Night Round 3. The fact that you win a Burger King award when no such award exists. Same goes for Under Armour and Dodge again, I believe. Or how about the "video" representation of the Dodge Caliber ringside, do you think that happens during title fights?
I understand having to watch commercials for free material. We do it watching TV every day. Most downloaded videos now have commercials. Sirius and XM exist because people are willing to pay a subscription fee to not listen to commercials. If we are paying any sum of money to purchase a game, we should not be subjected to unwanted advertisements or commercials either.
I am all for getting appropriate equipment in games, it increases realism, thus providing a better experience (for me). When I am subjected to a plug for Dodge, that I don't want to hear or see, I feel it violates our privacy.Comment

Re: EA getting REAL greedy...
There definitely SHOULD be advertising in sports games if you want realism. I'd rather see a "Gatorade presents.." than some fictional ripoff Gatorade company on a stat screen. However there is a line that EA and other companies should not cross in a sense we don't want any 15 or 30 second commercials breaking up the game action. That would be carrying it too far.Last edited by ODogg; 09-16-2006, 10:05 AM.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: EA getting REAL greedy...
I guess the real "GREED" aspect is that EA is planning to advertise real products (which is not a problem, if done unobtrusively IMO), AND charge their customer base for "extras" that use to be included in the games.
As far as in game Ads ruining the games, that remains to be seen. I remember someone mentioning that they noticed in Madden 360, the cam would pan over to the scoreboard to show a generic animation/graphic for "SACK" or "TOUCHDOWN," etc. instead of showing a replay... of course on the scoreboard were Ads. Now, if this were the direction EA decided to take to show Ads, that would take away from presentation.
Could you imagine if EA used a tv-style broadcast for presentation and ran actual commercials, which could be watched or bypassed by pressing A. LOL.Comment

Re: EA getting REAL greedy...
This is where it's going, folks. Mark my words. EA is wanting to literally, and figuratively, turn a video sports game into a real-to-life game......except for one small, teeny, weeny problem. Their games have never been that realistic but you just know their commercials in the games are going to look realistic. I believe that there is a switch occuring in revenue streams for sports game makers (mostly due to crappy games being put out). It's going from relying on the game-buyer market to real-life advertisments. I honest too goodness feel that EA's focus isn't even on making the best game out there anymore.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20
