Whalberg and DeNiro could certainly be good...but Leo and Jack made the Departed what it was.

I'm confused about the whole sequel thing as well. A prequel maybe, but the movie is called The Departed for a reason.

A sequel would be stupid. Without DiCaprio, Damon, and Nicholson, and Anthony Anderson, the movie will flop.

I don't see how it would work. The plot of the story was two moles trying to find out who each other was. How could they make a sequel to that, when both moles are dead.

good point, but Marky Mark was money in this movie...

If anything, do a spin off like Tarantino did with the Vega brothers. Just have a completely new vehicle that has minimum connections to the first one.

This is one of those movies that shouldn't have a sequel. Like you said it would be impossible to make, and would be no where near as good as the first. The article said they're still gonna make the movie if Scorsese passes. Maybe even with Michael freeking Mann. I hope this sequel doesn't happen. It would most likely ruin a great movie.

Nah it won't ruin the first one, everyone will just chalk it up to another failed sequel. Considering most of the big names won't be back, I don't expect people to be too hyped about it to begin with.

                      Re: "The Departed"

I wasn't that hyped about this movie until last week when I saw DVD previews + read some things on the net.

                      SPOILERS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I thought that this movie was fantastic from start to the last 10 minutes of the movie. I could stomach Nicholson and Damon or Leo dying, but the ending turned into a bloodbath which really caught me off guard. They killed off way too many of the characters.

Can they make a sequel that won't fail? Sure they can especially if Robert DeNiro plays the Senator role that is connected to Nicholson, Wahlberg & Bladwin returning, and even the pregnancy by Farmiga could play some type of role. A sequel could work, but how will they pull it off is the thing.
                      END OF SPOILERS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I felt like the 151 minutes really flew by fast and I'm going to try and check out the Asian originals, "Internal Affairs". I wonder if those deal with the Yakuza?

The PQ on Bluray is just amazing, this is the first movie to have true lossless PCM, but its not taken advantage of since its not that kind of movie.

I have new found respect for Leonardo, he really showed what an actor he can be the more mature that he gets.

After finally seeing this, I want Wahlberg to win the best supporting Oscar. He unintentionally had me laughing through the movie, thought he was great.

Just saw this last night for the first time. Excellent movie all around. I read some reviews saying the movie dragged in the middle but I didn't fell that.

My Dad is a retired Trooper so some of the attitudes and mannerisms of the "Toopers" in the flic had me laughing.

Just watched it. Probably the best movie I've seen in the past year. Incredible acting all around and if Scorcese doesn't win best director this year then the Academy should all retire.

I thought Little Miss Sunshine was the best movie that I saw last year, but I think this one is #1 for '06 and #2 is LMS.

I've seen it, and i love it, but i don't think Wahlberg should be nomiated over Jack, or I even heard that Dicapro's role was deemed to be supporting, he should of got the nod. Wahlberg just made me laugh a couple of times.
