Google's IPO was on August 19, 2004. Initial share price was $85.00.

Today, Google's share price is $420.20.

Despite that, I'd generally advise strongly against investing a life savings in a single stock, or the stock market at all.

Money can certainly be made, but it can also be lost. It's risky business, and thus investing a life savings is a bad idea.

If you do intend to invest, I'd strongly recommend doing research first. Because while the stock market is risky, research can reduce the risk, and increase the odds of reward.

Speaking of Myspace, they aren't going to be free anymore right? Heard they are going to have three memberships now. basic=free, something else and gold.

Well, it's done. Say goodbye to the YouTube we once knew.

Actually, Google went public in 2004.

                i feel that way too.

google has almost unlimited upload capacity for size and length. ive seen full featured documentaries on there. throw in charged based video footage for nba games and even tv shows, and im not exactly liking them being known as one,

maybe im being a cheap *** about this but i loved what they both individually offered.

now to see that youtube signed on with some record companies to provide copyrighted music videos, its getting less and less about what made youtube, youtube.

nice way of selling out lol

gain popularity off the backs of amateurs and news programs with a BS user agreement, while maybe 3% of the popular videos ink a small market deal worth a few thousand. smart dudes i tell ya. i guess i should have appreciated their BS UA alittle more now, knowing what thats worth.

DAMN... what a business model they had. Robbing people right in front of our own eyes. there robbing us and theres nothing we can do about it. lol

I doubt 80% of the people that put up videos do so for monetary reasons. So it's not really robbing us blind. I just think that something that was so democratic in terms of sharing great media and having people enjoying it for no money was something special. In a world where people only look for ways to make more and more money it was kinda nice to have something like that.

I just hope there's a way that the members that put up old NFL broadcasts and such can last a while longer under this new era but I highly doubt it.

The two owners were recently on Good Morning America. Young guys. What a hit for them.

Well the boys at Microsoft wanted to try their hand at a site like MySpace, but they were gonna charge for a lotta stuff like graphics and whatnot. If there proves to be a market for that kinda stuff, then so long free MySpace

It's starting! But we'll always remember the YouTube we once knew....

Viacom demands YouTube pull down videos

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Viacom Inc. has demanded that Google Inc.'s online video service YouTube pull down all of its video clips after they failed to reach an agreement, the company said.

About 100,000 video clips from Viacom-owned properties including MTV Networks and BET has been asked to be removed.

Viacom said its pirated programs on YouTube generate about 1.2 billion video streams, based on a study from an outside consultant.
Among other things, Viacom also owns Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon, and Comedy Central.
