The MLS is boring 100% of the time, the quality of play is pathetic.

But I think games in which top EPL teams are playing are usually pretty good. And the game is played a much different way to the style over here.

There's only 7 pages on mine so I don't know how far back to go and I don't feel like going through the whole thread.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Re: The Sports and Entertainment Blasphemy Thread

I tend to think that if you are way too conscious about your weight and you moderate what you eat too much by going on diets, and not eating certain types of food (because they are frowned upon this month... who knows what will be bad next month?)... makes you unhealthy/overweight.

I don't watch what I eat at all, and not because I don't eat unhealthy... it's just not a concern of mine, and I trust myself with eating a good balance of good food and food that's good tasting.

I have no weight problem, in fact, I am a very healthy human being compared to the general public.

People just need to stop worrying about all of it. What did people do back in the day when they didn't have the knowledge that we do today. Judging by pictures, the 18th Century people looked pretty fit to me.

Re: The Sports and Entertainment Blasphemy Thread

Ok this thread is losing it's steam. We need some Blasphemy in here so I'll fire it up.

LOST really is a stupid show. It's a non comedy Seinfeld. "A Show about Nothing". There really is no plot, I don't think the writers even know where it's going. Nothing means anything. Yet people are constantly trying to figure out all of these 'clues' that really aren't clues at all. The only time we'll ever know what it's all about is when the ratings suck, and people are tired of it, and they wrap it all up.

And yes I watch it every week. But it's really is stupid.

Bobby Knight was right when he said that journalism is a profession one step above prostitution. [paraphrased]

They have absolutely no accountability for their actions, as most recently seen when they ran with the story that Terrell Owens attempted suicide. It is also goes to every other area of the media as well, yet they are treated as authorities because we live in a country full of morons. Are all journalists like this? Of course not, but enough are and it is sickening.

This is an idea that my AAU coach thinks should be implemented in all of sports, I agree with him.

Every generation human beings get bigger, stronger and faster. Over the course of the last century humans have changed so much (just naturally, let alone weight lifting, nutrition, etc.) in terms of natural physical ability.

Because of this, sports needs to adjust the dimensions of their playing fields and courts to accomodate this growth.

James Naismith designed the basketball court for people who were a MAX of 6'4" 210 lbs. Raise the hoop six-inches, the three-point line should be 22', the court should be 5 feet wider, and 10 feet longer.

Football fields also, make them wider (I don't think making it longer would change anything). These "stud defenses" with tons of freak athletes are playing on a tiny field.

Humans adjust everything else in our society (cars, planes, chairs, beds, ceilings, new stadiums have bigger seats w. more leg room and wider isles, etc.) to accomodate our growth as a whole, why shouldn't sports follow suite?

My late father said this very thing about 15 years ago, he always helt the basket in the NBA should be higher, that baseball fields should be bigger, and the football field should be bigger (he preferred this about the CFL). He was right then, he and your AAU coach are right now.

Actually the growth of humans naturally has been a slow and incremental climb. It's only been in the 20th century that it has skyrocketed.

Anywho on to the point, I agree that basketball and hockey surfaces should be bigger. The same goes for football. In fact i'd love to see what the NFL would be like with NFL rules on a CFL sized field.

The only thing I disagree about is the size of baseball fields. Some ballparks are kinda small but more often then not the size is quite fine. I don't really think we need every MLB team having huge spacious fields like the Tigers and Padres have right now.

I tend to agree with that but alot of that stuff takes care of itself. I mean of course you have bigger, faster defenders in the NFL but eventually you will see offenses go with quicker linemen and mobile QB's. Once that happens, defenses will get bigger than offense will have bigger RB's and receivers. I remember about 10 years ago, everybody wanted a 6'5 receiver.....now the best receivers are short quick guys with technique.

I can only imagine how enormous the Polo Grounds must have been back then. It would be great to see a stadium like that today. But in the words of Greg Maddux "chicks did the long ball".

Boxing is the most vicious and grueling sancationed sport in the world. I have more respect for a boxer and his toughness, than I do for any NFL player.

Futhermore, the invention of Pay per view was what started the slow spiral of boxing, which was accelerated by Don King.

Furthermore, we will never see another athlete like Muhammad Ali again. I'd imagine very few of our athletes today would give up their livelyhood for their beliefs.

Boxing also needs that Mike Tyson figure. The figure who polarizes opinions on him. Ali had it with his conversion to Islam and his stance against the War.
