I've listened to this album 5 times now..I still don't like it much. Black album was way better...

Re: Jay-Z: Kingdom Come
I think that this album is decent, but very forgetable. It's good but I expected more for this big KONY comeback and save the hip-hop world album. I like Minority Report, Places We Can Go, Show Me What You Got, Kingdom Come and Beach Chair... the latter two being in the upper echelon of Jay songs. This album does not even come close to The Black Album imo, and definately is not in the same stratosphere as Jay-Z classics like Blueprint, RD, and Vol. 1.
As far as Nas goes, he's my favorite MC, and I have been fiending for his album for awhile. I just hope that he's not soley rapping about how hip-hop today sucks, which is what I am gathering by the title Hip-Hop is Dead.
What Jay (and I'm assuming Nas) don't get is that a whole album whining about the state of rap and saying "I'm the greatest" does not do anything to help the problem. Dropping a fresh album like Lupe Fiasco's Food and Liquor helps the state of hip-hop. I'm saying don't talk about it, be about it. Hopefully, Nas comes with the heat on this one though. In the meantime I keep listening to Jay hoping it'll grow on me.Comment

Please tell me you did'nt forget about Street Disciple already? Still in heavy rotation in my crib. I'm not even worried about Nas dropping some nonsense. When has he ever? (Nastradamus not included)
As for Jay, he's fell off since the Blueprint 2 IMHO. I have no doubt in my mind that this cd will provide some bangers but will quickly fade as did The Black Album. I haven't gave it a listen yet.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Re: Jay-Z: Kingdom Come
I mean what influence is that album going to have long term? Even as dope as the underground scene was in '05, albums like the Minstrel Show didn't change much in terms of the grand landscape. Sure, they're great for the hardcore listeners but it hasn't done anything in terms of balancing out hip-hop and getting some diversity back into it. We need something major like a Wu/Nas/Biggie trio of '93-'94."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Jay-Z: Kingdom Come
My fear was based more on the title of the album than his track record, because as far as I'm concerned he's the undisputed G.O.A.T.Comment

But does it really?

Re: Jay-Z: Kingdom Come
I liked Nastradamus too. Nastradamus wasn't as bad as people said it was. It's just the fact that his standards were so high after iLLmatic and It Was Written. I personally think It Was Written was better then iLLmatic just my opinion."Your character is who you really are, your reputation is what you're perceived to be by others" - John Wooden(former UCLA head coach)Comment

Re: Jay-Z: Kingdom Come
Nastradamus stunk. I played it yesterday and still refuse to feel it in any way, shape or form....plus I was intoxicated. Only songs I still enjoy are Shoot Em Up and The Life We Choose. Everything else is garbage. I also think It Was Written was better than Illmatic with I Am being a close second.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment
