Went to a Vista presentation at Microsoft today. It looks as if they have adopted the console way of starting programs. No installs is what they said (although Office 2007 was installed), no registry adds or .dll's installed. Hopefully this will expand PC gaming somehow.Tags: None -

I'm definately interested in upgrading, since my PC is only a few months old and I still play a lot of PC games. 1ghz 32 bit or 64bit
1gb RAM
DX9 support with a WDDM driver. 128mb video memory (minimum), Pixel Shader 2.0 and 32bit per second (this gets you the see through title bars, if u dont meet the specs then you dont get the fancy title bars)
40gb HD with 15gb free
DVD drive
Audio, Internet capability
They also mentioned how you can use a USB KEY to cache which give your system a boost in speed.
If anyone has any questions I can try and answer from what I seen. The presentation was 40 minutes Business justification and 20 minutes of acutal Vista.Comment

My CPU will run it fine, but dropping the wireless might be an issue though.

They just went over what they implemented for their partners and said that 90% of the programs ran. Of course Im sure none of the programs tested were games.Comment

Will Vista implement a way to search for something that is contained within a file? For instance if I save an email and somewhere in the email it says "Firefly" can I somewhere in Vista type in Search, Find, "Firefly" and it will locate that email? This is something i've wanted on PC's for years and I think I read Vista will do it but not sure.

I'm running OSX and while it's a nice looking interface I like Vista's GUI and the Aero look better.
p.s. keep in mind XP is a 2D GUI and OSX is in 3D a.k.a. "Aqua".Comment

How stable is it, does it crash much? Also how is the boot up time compared to XP? Does it have a feature where you can save your desktop and windows to flash ram type thing like IBM used to have on some of their computers? This speeds up boot up time to practically zero. The search reminds me of the search in Firefox, it kinda replaces the RUN comand in current OS's. You type in Word and it shows Word 07, Wordpad and any documents that contain the word Word. It does search email aswell. The new Outlook has the same feature but it can be done within the OS, it must be cataloged because it is found instantly. Visually it looks good, yes Mac like. If you want to know what Vista will look like download Windowblinds 5.1 and the "Arrow" skin. It's a 90% knockoff on how Vista will look. From some of the impressions with those who have seen it, they say it looks very slick.
