damn man, you got the stiletto? That thing is pimp. Might be getting that for Christmas.

While its true that Sirius is outselling XM handily, no way that Sirius buys XM. It just will never happen. Howard 100 news had a story about it the other day, I don't think the FCC and the other gov't agencies will let it happen.

That's true, I think I heard them say that to. Ya the Stiletto is awesome. It also works great in my car wirelessly pumped though my system. No more commercials and I can pause songs and get out of my car and go back to it after pumping gas. I can also record any song I hear.. The Tivo functionality of this thing is amazing. As Howard says everyday NO More BULL ****.. Free FM??? HAHA

Not like it matters or anything but I fully recommend Sirius. I got one for Christmas last year and it could be one of the greatest gifts I've ever recieved.

Let's put a little fact behind statements

Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio have both reported strong third quarter results.

Sirius's revenue increased 150 percent year over year, to $167.1 million, according to the company. Cost to acquire a subscriber dropped 23 percent, and Sirius's third quarter adjusted loss from operations decreased 21 percent year over year.

Meanwhile, XM Satellite Radio saw third quarter revenue increase 57 percent year over year, while cost to acquire a subscriber grew from $53 in Q3 05 to $60 in the third quarter of this year. Net loss was reduced by 36 percent.
XM added more than 2.8 million subscribers this year to date. According to Hugh Panero, CEO of XM, the "significant revenue growth" and narrowing losses mean the company is on track for positive cash flow from operations in the fourth quarter of this year.

XM finished the third quarter 2006 with a total of 7,185,873 subscribers, representing a 43 percent increase over the number of subscribers at the end of the Q3 '05. For the third quarter 2006, XM recorded net subscriber additions of 286,002.
Sirius ended the third quarter with 5,119,308 subscribers, 135 percent above third quarter 2005 ending subscribers. During the third quarter of 2006, Sirius added 441,101 net subscribers, a 23 percent increase over third quarter 2005 net subscriber additions.

For the fourth consecutive quarter, Sirius led the satellite radio industry in net subscriber additions, capturing 61 percent of total satellite radio net additions in the third quarter.

Sirius CEO Mel Karmazin attributed the success to excellence in programming and solid execution of the company's business plan. New initiatives helping to drive growth included: the launch of Sirius Internet Radio; the launch of the Stiletto 100, the industry's first portable satellite radio with WiFi capabilities; a channel devoted to legendary rock superstars The Who; a multi-year agreement with The Metropolitan Opera; an agreement with Chelsea Football Club which makes Sirius the satellite provider of Chelsea soccer matches; and increasing momentum in the automotive OEM channel.
XM attributed growth the expanding its position as "the leading provider of satellite radio for the automobile industry," pointing out recent agreements with such automakers as Porsche, Acura, Hyundai, Lexus and GM.
XM also recently launched its Oprah Winfrey channel, "Oprah & Friends," and rolled out a new fall marketing campaign across network and cable television, print, interactive, direct marketing, retail and automotive channels in October.

It also recently announced an agreement with Cingular Wireless to stream 25 XM music channels to Cingular handsets.

We bought my dad this for Christmas last year and at the end of this summer he cancelled it because he wasn't getting good reception. Well it was working for a little while and he figured it would just end at the end of the month, well the end of the month comes around and it still works. Long story short it's been working even since and he isn't getting billed for it. Did he just manage to get lucky and they cancelled his account but didn't deactivate it or something?

I just thought it was cool/weird that it still works and he doesn't have to pay for it.

                      Re: XM Satellite Radio

I have XM, and I think that it is fantastic. I work tons of hours, and have a long commute, and XM pretty much keeps me sane. I'm sure I'd like Sirius, as well.

Between the 2 services, from my POV, it comes down to what sports you prefer, and whether you care about O&A v. Stern.

Personally, I am a huge hockey fan, and definitely also like the MLB broadcasts. On the other side of the coin, although I love the NFL, having those games on the radio really doesn't help much, as I'm usually watching whatever game I'd like to watch anyway (or at least DVRing it). I hate the NBA.

XM also has ACC on it, and I'm a Boston College alum, so that's another big time bonus for me. Love the other college coverage on XM, as well.

As for Stern v. O&A - I was a huge Stern fan in the 90s, but his show really declined in quality once Jackie the Jokeman left, and after he was divorced from his wife. After hearing how good he used to be, and comparing it to his last few years on FM radio, there wasn't a comparison. I have not heard him on Sirius, but it doesn't sound like things have improved back to his earlier level of quality.

As for O&A, sometimes I love listening, and sometimes I hate that show, but one constant remains - Lil' Jimmy Norton is an evil comedic genius, and makes that show worthwhile (even if he is the only person in the world who is capable of offending me with his insanely dark comments). They also have this guy named Patrice on there, who is unbelievably good. O&A's show is far different from what it used to be prior to Sex for Sam, but I generally give it a thumbs up, among a few rough spots.

Basically, figure out what sports you like, and whether you care about Stern v. O&A, and that's which system you should get. I believe that the music is about equal for either service (at least it was when I compared them about 6 months ago).

You could not be more wrong in this statement. I agree that Sterns show
on FM sucked towrds the end . The guy could not do his show with out getting fined. He is back and his show on Sirius is AWESOME! I have not missed a show since he switched over. Plus they are re-playing his really old shows when he is off and they are all uncensored. Jackie also has his own show on Howard’s channel and he has come into the show a couple of times.

Yeah, in Western MA we have a ton of dead spots, especially near Springfield with the buildings.

they both have espn. Sirius has espn radio and espn news. I'm sure they are both on XM as well. I picked Sirius because of Stern, NFL and SEC, but to each their own. Hope you like it.
